Have any of you guys ever heard of the KX series Kicker amp's? I currently own a ZX400.1 that feeds my subs with no problem, but I have an oppurtunity to pick up a KX600.1 and just wondering if it's worth it or not?

Both are solid amps when run at 2 ohm loads and Kicker tends to over-build their amps too = Solid product, very good reliabilty and value.

The output power difference between these two amps will not be very notable. (about 1.5dB more sound, assuming both amps are set up properly) A 1.5 dB bump in SPL is barely audible. A 3.0 dB bump, (800 Wrms) is audible, but might knock your rear view mirror off.

Hope that helps,

Swez,
The reason why I'm looking for a bigger amp is because I'm going to take the tens out and replace them with three 12's, do you think the 600 will sound different than the 400? I'm really happy with the performance that the ZX400 delivers, I used to only run Fosgate and only Fosgate. That set-up I'm run'n right-now already has knocked my rearview mirror off, along with about four or five huge crack's in my dash!!!

Hehe, yeah... 400 RMS is nothing to sneeze at. This is especially true when using very efficient subs and a well designed ported box for the speakers.

In this case, consider a pair of 12" subs that are very efficient, (88dB SPL @ 2.83 volts) or higher and can handle 400-600 watts RMS in a ported enclosure. The extra efficiency in subs and enclosure design will cost less then replacing amp and subs and deliver more bass than you have now.

Yes, a 3 x 12 box can be used if you wish, but matching subwoofer ohmic loads to a given amp will be more difficult to do. Here, 8 ohm coils would make the most sense. (3 in parallel = 2.67 ohms) That's not the optimal impedence for a KX 400 or 600 amp, but it will give each woofer 1/3rd the power available from either amp used.

What subs are you contiplating?

I've been eye'n some JL Audio 12w3's or some Kicker L5 12's, not sure yet. I'm kind of partial to JL subs.

Great SQ subs, but they love extra power too. The L5's are very power hungry subs and need a lot of box space too. If you wanted to really pump up the bass and all the power upgrade, then it would make sense. Otherwise, JL makes the most sense of the two mentioned.
