my buddy just got a 86' mustang and i wanted to know what sizes are the factory speakers and locations ? i tried to look on crutchfield and it said in the dash and 6x8's in the rear deck. how do i take the ones in the dash out ? i was thinking of getting him some cheap tweeters and run it with a crossover for the dash speakers. make the dash ones the midbass and have tweeters up front for better sound. would that work? i just picked up a really chaep 4 channel amp that i may sell him.

If he really wants it done nice, custom kick panels are the way to go and a quality set of Component type speakers in the kicks. Skip the dash speakers as they are a major PITA to get to and replace.

As for the rears, a solid pair of 6x8" ovals can add nice rear fill to the mix. They came deliver very good midbass if there's enough airspace for the cones to breath and give solid lows down to 50-60 Hz.

Amping is definitely the way to go here too. Not just for the sake of making it louder, but keeping the music clean and strong when desired.

Consider a modest powered sub in the final package too. A single 10" sub and say 100-300 watts of clean power would be plenty good in this street machine. (Unless he changes the engine and exhaust package for major performance upgrades too)

he only paied 450 for the car and he wants to go as cheap as he can. i want him to get the best bang for his buck. i happend to remember that i have some infinity kappa 5x7's around somewhere and i found one of them tonight and i just cant find the other one.

we replaced the factory am/fm player with a duel cd player. im mad at him and told him to wait for me to come with him to get a GOOD cd player....i was thinking of having him get a pioneer cd, pioneer was one of the first cd players i had and i think they are pritty good and u can add stuff to them (amps and stuff) unlike this duel cd player that has only one set of preamp (rca) outputs.

all in all im trying to teach him not to go big and spl so he can be heard from 4 miles away.....but sq is the way to go..but he can still turn it up and impress his buddy's ( he is only 17-18 yrs old) he wanted to put 2 15's in the trunk on the ol'stang. its not the fox body yet its the one with the trunk witch there is no room for even 12's here i think.

we were planing on going with 2 half way decent 10 inch subs. i found on ebay that kicker seemed to be the best in being in his price range. with a nice amp i can find a deal on ebay with about 400-600 rms range.

as for the 4 channel amp i picked up its was one of my friends and we hooked it up into his car , hoping to add to his system and he ended up not making his stereo any biger. so it was hooked up to power and never hooked to speakers and i got it for 30 bucks. its a crossfire vr-404 its 50w rms x 4 . pritty good deal
