I have stepped away from my usual SUV trend and decided get a car - 03' Eclipse GT. I still have the 15" Kicker L7 driver paired with the ZX 1000.1 (which delivers immense power I must say) in a 3.0 cu ft enclosure in the 98 explorer. The car has a decent pioneer h/u (not sure which model), a new pair of Memphis 10's in a ported enclosure, and a small Sony Explode amp. *Not sure which model on any of this lol. But what I am sure of is that it has to go!! I've gotten a bit attached to the sound from the L7, and this setup is just not up to par. Now, I may decide to go with an SQ setup because of the space issue but I still want some serious bass. I'm willing to invest in a new driver, but I can't make myself let go of the ZX 1000.1 just yet.. Suggestions? Comments? Replies (3) swez on 01/25/2008 01:27:31 Hum, can your Eclispe GT handle the current draw from that ZX-1000.1? If yes, consider revamping the L7 sub enclosure to fit the space you now have to work with. (Sealed and about 1.5 - 2.0 ft^3 should produce good SQL results here) You will probably lose some deep bass performance in the "transfer function" as compared to a larger SUV. But with that much amping power at hand, solid bass should be doable with a little more Bass boost. (Say... +6 to +9dB boost at 35-45 Hz. should help) Say more, Swez big_bass_chase on 01/25/2008 05:38:48 I think its a 90 amp alternator @ idle, but I'm not positive so don't quote me on that. If needed I'm sure I can get a h/o for less than $200.. That solves the pwr issue, with 0 ga wire of course - and the big 3 to end the circle. Part of me wants to try out a less mainstream driver, but then again after feeling the raw power of an L7, I would hate to end up being disappointed. *SQ is not a must with this car, but acceptable given the space we have to work with. (Although SPL is what I've grown to love). Now, without the cost of an optima, h/o alternator, and 0 ga pwr wire in mind - are there any other drivers that would be comparable to the L7 with the ZX 1000.1?? swez on 01/26/2008 19:47:09 The OEM ALT for this pacage is 90 amps peak. (More like 50A's at idle and 90A's above 2500 RPM) This amp will put a considerable strain on your stock electricals at full power! The L7 is a solid SPL sub and a good SQL sub. It mostly depends on the enclosure design used. Sealed for SQ, medium size for SQL and the giganto ported for SPL. What makes the L7 a neat sub for SPL use is the larger cone area we get from the square cone. It has about 20% more cone surface area than a 12" round sub. That means more air is coming off the cone for every stroke of the piston coil. If you love this sub, why change? Swez Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
