Has any one used these subs ? are they any good. Just wondering as they are cheap and I figure I get what I pay for . are they worth what they are priced or are they better than that :AWC12Q12" Subwoofer w/ dual 4ohm voice coils - 500 watts RMS $54.99 at thezeb.com Replies (17) Swez on 09/2/2003 07:55:03 Probably a good deal better than any other 12" sub in thet price range. Bahn makes mostly SPL subs and the ALUM series will give quality SPL and SQ in the proper enclosure design.... but for an entry level sub, this is a bargain! Swez carfreak on 09/2/2003 18:39:10 Thats not really a clear answer that I wanted..hehe Right now I have a pair of legacy 12" subs , So I have the starter pair of subs I was just looking for a good sub for a good deal. I have them In a bandpass box and I want a chest pounding bass from them. If it is possable to use these subs and get the bass I want I will just go with a diffrent box. What do you think? New subs or new box Prob need both but I am on a budget from hell accusedmonk on 09/2/2003 20:44:08 I just looked at the 15" Audiobahn sub, 600 rms isn't bad, and it's got 95 decibal sensitivty to boot, I'd take them over my Lightning Audio subs maybe. The retail for these subs are $250, so they can't be too bad. I've never tried legacy out, most of the time I hear people saying it's the worst, I have no idea, I've never tried it, or the Audiobahns, but looking at the specs they should be nice for SQ with some power to them. The $54.99 is the sale price they have BTW, thezeb.com drops prices down so much it's not even funny. I kinda wanna get 2 more of the Lightning Audio subs from there since they are only $250 each instead of $750. Swez on 09/2/2003 22:29:29 Excuse me! I missed your meaning... I left my mind reading cap in the car last night.... LOL But I think your box is more the issue here than the subs. Bandpass generic boxes are not the end all be all fit for most subs. It's a crap shoot at best, unless the box maker used sub specs (you have) to build the box. NOT LIKELY... a good fit. Are you willing and able to build or buy a sealed or ported box that is more suited to your Legacy subs? The box has more impact on sub performance than the sub itself. BP is a wierd animal and at best, most are one note wonders. They sound loud as all get out at a given frequency, but as for balanced bass through the entire bass spectrum, they cannot do so. Seriously though... the enclosure is almost as important as the sub we choose. Get it right and the subs will boom nice. Get it wrong and we either lack deep bass or have very sloppy low end bass. Swez carfreak on 09/2/2003 22:45:24 lol I am sorry about the not reading my mind We the thing is that No matter what I will prob get a gen box from someplace. Subzone qlogic whatever. I kind of want a ported box would like it to be small but thats a joke right. I can build a sealed box but I want a chest pounding bass and I do not know if sealed will give me that . looking at this box here http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3044334475&category=14945 I really want to build my own box to fit my car though aaaaaaaahhhhhhhh what do I do. too many choices and no money for any of them accusedmonk on 09/3/2003 06:37:46 I would build the box myself, one reason being you know your sub better then anyone else, considering the subs aren't perfectly alike, and you know what they handle, what the measurements are and all. I bought a box for $209 at a place near me, it was "custom made" for my subs, which was a full 1.5 cubic feet to large, messin up my beautiful subs :(. lol What I'm getting at is, if you want it done perfect for your subs, it'd most likely be better to DIY. I"m probably gonna do that now for my own system. Swez on 09/3/2003 07:07:57 That looks like a subzone enclosure, or a copy of same. Very good price too! Do you know the ported enclosure recommendations for your Legacy subs? Most 12's are typically between 1.5- 2.0 cf/sub and port tuned to ~36Hz. If your sub fall in this range and that box tuning port can be determined... I'd say do it as you cannot build a box this well w/o spending more money. Will this box fit in your vehicle? Swez carfreak on 09/3/2003 16:53:59 Size 12” Power Peak 500W Power RMS 250W Voice Coil 1.5” SPL @ 1W/1M 89.0dB Fs (Hz) 45.4 QMS 1.55 QES 0.87 VAS (cu ft) 1.745 Overall Diameter 10.83” Mounting Depth 4.92” Magnet Weight 80 Oz. thats my speaker specs yes the box will fit in the trunk carfreak on 09/3/2003 22:08:53 I just perchased the box and hopefuly will have it in a week ,have to send M/O and then waite for him to send the box. I am hoping that it will solve my problem for bass so I can keep my subs Swez on 09/4/2003 07:13:50 From the specs I see on your Legacy subs, they have a very high Fs. So your tuning frequency may have to be a bit higher than a better set of subs. Do you have these? LWF12X, 4 ohm SVC's http://www.justwoofers.com/Woofer_Pages/Legacy/legacy_lwfX.htm Do you have a website for Legacy audio handy. Want to look at their site and see what ported specs they recommend. Found it: http://www.legacycaraudio.com No box details on ported enclosures. Most of what they offer are BP and Dual BP enclosures. That explains the high Fs a bit and these subs are designed to be loud, (in a very narrow frequency band... 55-75 Hz) but not great SQ performance. Swez PS You my want to consider upgrading these subs to something more suitable to your new taste for bass. That ported box is 1.735cf internal per sub, but we have no details on port tuning frequency for this enclosure. It does state a High SPL Sub box so I can guess the port tuning is above 35 Hz. If that is true, I hope your amp has a subsonic filter than can be set at 40 Hz (or a tad higher) to prevent sub distruction at moderate power below, the port tuning frequency. See if you can contact the seller and inquire as to the port tunning frequency for this box OK? carfreak on 09/4/2003 17:12:51 well I just paid for the box and asked him the freq Yes that is the woofers I have This is the amp I have :http://www.legacycaraudio.com/itempage.asp?model=LA590 If I do need a set of woofers then would the banns that I had pointed out work ok? AWC12Q12" Subwoofer w/ dual 4ohm voice coils - 500 watts RMS Swez on 09/4/2003 21:44:54 Real over kill on this amp to buy any Bahn subs over ~200 RMS. The ones you mentioned a very good price, pretty efficient with low power amp... much better than the sus you have now! Go here and see if you can find box specs on that woofer set you are considering. I cannot get into the .pdf file now. Look for ported specs on that sub.... Swez carfreak on 09/4/2003 22:22:20 lol U never left a link I would love to keep my subs if I can as I do not want to spend more if I do not have to . Right now I cant get the subs any way I am straped for cash. So I guess It really dose not matter one way or a nother . Just hope my subs will not blow . The box specs are right in volume but who knows what the ported specs are BIGJ11BB on 09/5/2003 00:10:54 the only thing bad that i've heard about audiobahn is that they make there tensil leads to thin and they can burn through into the spyder. One of my friends actually had it happen. They should be alright though as long as u do not feed them to much power or run them hard for a long time. P.S. They sound Really Good Swez on 09/5/2003 05:43:49 The link was to Bahn's web site and hoping you have time to search the box recommedations lists in the Tech Support section... sorry for not including that link... I was pressed for time. Here: http://www.audiobahninc.com/frameset.html I did find the AWC 120Q in the 2002 series subs and there is a .pdf file with ported enclosure specs. 2.0 cf/sub 1 port per sub... 4" dia x 10.7" long tuning frequency of 37 Hz. This nets a 1.8cf per chamber sub enclosure when we subtract sub & port displacements. Anyway, file that one away for a future date if you elect to step up to high performance subs. For now, see what you get with the new box and your present subs. Swez carfreak on 09/5/2003 18:55:26 I will keep ya posted on how It sounds :-) thanks for your help Swez on 09/6/2003 05:57:21 You are most welcome and I hope the new enclosure will net better bass perfromance than you have now in that BP enclosure. If not, there are options that you can play out later, as cash flow allows. Swez Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
