i recently aquired a 4 ohm dvc solobaric l5 but am unsure whether to go with a 2 channel amp or a mono amp. I have a rockford 800x2 that i can use but im not sure how i should hook it up. Is there a way i can just run it at 4 ohm or is 2 and 8 my only options. Any help would be apreciated

The best amp for this sub would be a Class D Mono amp that delivers adequate power at 2 ohms. The best sub for this amp would be a 4 ohm sub. (2+2 DVC)

However, wiring one coil per channel and using a MONO sub input source from the HU, (Sub output channel) should work and be a safe bet. Just make sure to get your amp to coil wiring polarity right.

What are the model #'s on this Kicker sub and RF amp?

the speaker is 06S12L5-4DVC and the amp is power punch 800.2

I've always noticed a drastic difference between mono amps and class D amps, my first thought is defiantly get your hands on a 1ch amp. i like swez's idea on running each coil to a channel off the sub out of the head unit, or run 2ohm bridged

The RF Power Punch 800.2 is spec'd as followed:

Continuous Power Rating (measured at 13.8V) Typical voltage, not dynamic or peak.

Bridged @ 4-Ohm Load: 800 watts x 1
Per Channel @ 2-Ohm Load: 400 watts x 2
Per Channel @ 4-Ohm Load: 200 watts x 2

Wiring this sub at 1 coils per channel, (Stereo) is your only option for the sub mentioned. (~200 watts RMS per coil)

RF Power series amp are a bit stronger on the "Birth Sheets" they offer with a given amp, but to get the most from this sub, a true Class D amp that is stable at 2 ohms would be the best choice.

ah yes, no bridged 2ohm. >_<
just make sure your Head Unit has a sub-out RCA selection

Im not trying to get the most out of the speaker, I just want the definition it offers. Im not as worried about shaking the ground as i am the sound. I would also like the equipment to last me for quite some time so it sounds like its not a bad option to go with this RF 2 channel amp. It should offer all the power ill really need and mabye ill get another L5 for fun. Thanks for your help

I just wanted to make sure you understand that both coils need to be wired up to make the speaker work correctly right? using only 1 coil in the speaker(and leaving the other dead) will result in the coil that is wired up blowing.

Well yeah id run one channel to each voice coil
