OK i'm looking for a good componet system for the front of my 2003 ford ranger... i'm looking to spend up to 200$ on a set of real nice componet speakers. of course i know the nice brands like MB quarts and focal etc. but i hate paying money for a name. so i'm looking for any sugestions i want somehting that can take 125watts RMS and preferably something that can put out all high and mid range.... my plan is to have my pioneer deck (deh-p640) my 2 alpine type r 10" DVC subs runing mye 80hz and below. a set of nice 5x7 or 6x8 coaxail speaker for the back that can take some low end and pick up where my subs leave off at 80hz and below "(for now my pioneer 6x8 i know not the best speaker for this) and then a set of nice componets for the front to bring in all the clear sharp highs and mids. i well end up runing the 2 front componet set ups off a phoenix godl tantrum series 500.2 amp that is 125 watts per channel and then the subs off a mono block amp around 800 watts for the subs. so any ideas on a good set of componets to fit into this idea... thanks for any help you guys are great. Replies (13) uochronos on 09/1/2003 06:17:09 hmm been actualy looking at componet system power rating... probaly should have before ghand but i see now that most are around 40-75 watts rms. so my plan of having 125 watts seems wrong now.. Swez on 09/1/2003 09:18:26 There are a few out there in that wattage range, but not many and very expensive too. Something to take that much power is going to be in high end HT components. Unfortunately, many of these are 8 ohm drivers (tweets especially) but very expensive. Have you looked into the CDT line of Comps yet? There is a great price on CL-61a Comps from www.the zeb.com. Several here have bought them and love em. I am thinking I may get a pair for my next install as well. For $150.00 a pair, cannot go wrong here! Look: http://www.thezeb.com/caraudio/CDT_Audio_Components.html Not a cheap brand name either... very high quality at a very low price. Thes are rated at 90 watts RMS and have a silk dome tweeter for very natural sounding highs. Metal cone tweeters tend to be somewhat brittle, harsh and overly bright. These are not. They sound excellent and I have no complaints. They handle their wattage (60 RMS) and are very clean and simple to install. I was very impressed with them, remeber they are normally $329 a set which is still a good deal. You are going to get what you pay for. I have never heard or used AudioBahn. But from what someone else was saying, you have to take their RMS and divide it by 2. As Audiobahn cheats and combines the RMS of both speakers. Hope that helps. Derek uochronos on 09/1/2003 22:43:02 ok what does anyone think of Alpine SPR-136A 5-1/4"Type-R Component 2-Way speakrs... i found them on sale for 125.00 normaly 239.99 are these a good set? i have never heard alpine type r coponent sets before but my subs are type r and if these are good it might be nice to have my speakers match Swez on 09/1/2003 23:04:40 Am sure they do sound good as most Alpine speakers do but the only real drawback I see: * recommended power range 8-40 watts RMS Not a heavy hitter with that amp you mentioned earlier. For a few dollars more, the CDT CL-61a is the best deal in price and performance I know of in this price range. The Bahns are not a bad SPL speaker, but you need to know that Bahn rates their speaker RMS power in pairs... Ie: 90 watts RMS = 45 watts RMS per pair. Swez PS Order the CDT's and you'll be glad you did. I know half a dozen guys that have bought these and all have the same comments... WOW ! What a find !!! uochronos on 09/2/2003 02:22:43 well looks like i'm getting my self a set of CDT's :) thanks for all yopur help guys these look like awsome speaker for the price... i'll let you know how they sound in the truck when i get them thanks alot Swez on 09/2/2003 07:36:21 Well.... all that nudging seems to have paid off afterall... LOL Just check the physical dimensions on the depth of these speakers to make sure you can install them in the factory location without interfering window mechanicals. From what I see, looks just shy of 3" deep on the midbass driver: CL-61 6.5" mid, 2 7/8" deep 1" silk swivel tweeter, Surface mountable Swez dflock on 09/2/2003 09:18:44 uochronos, Are you looking for 5 1/4 components or 6.5"? I noticed most of the items you brought up for discusion are 5 1/4". These CDTs that are on sale are only the 6.5" components. As Swez has stated, I would do some measurements of the area before purchasing. My comps just barely fit, I ended up taking the rubber surround on the magnet off to get them to fit. Derek Swez on 09/2/2003 13:19:00 You can always make a baffle plate that will allow 6.5" to fit in a 6x8" hole. Ttocs has knowlege on this part and will know exactly how to do this with you. Swez PS Dflock: If you read the earlier posts, he has a 6x8" opening.... not 5/4" . The devil is in the details and you have review the whole history to get the full picture. If you want my chair someday... get all the details too... hehe (you're fine.... the fact you have these speakers too, speaks well of your experience with same) dflock on 09/2/2003 15:43:02 Woops. heh... was trying to cut corners after coming across the discussion toward its end. Ah well... ;) Maybe someday i'll get it all together. Swez on 09/2/2003 17:08:42 You are getting it together... just mind the details as we can miss them, give wrong advice and really mess others up in the process. When helping others, remember they pay the price if we lead them off the path. That's a heavy responsibility.... don't take it lightly and soon, you'll get your Gold Medal too.
