K, i'm thinking about replacing my battery-top terminals and wiring, but before i do, i traced my negative, and i think it HAS to be grounded to the engine block, am i correct? if not i'm going to wire it to my frame right next to my battery.. i'm thinking i don't have to because i noticed on the momstang that the neg was connected right next to the battery.. thanks for any help Replies (5) swez on 01/12/2008 15:06:08 The Neg terminal is common to the frame, most metal body works and the engine block. It's OK to use the short BAT to fender well stud as that also connects elsewhere to the engine and the rest of the vehicle as well. This is called a "Common Ground" system. The frame, most metal body parts and engine block are all grounded. If grounds are needed for components mounted in plastic, (Like the dash board electruicals) they are often grounded to the firewall, floor pan or a grounding buss under the dash. Do you understand how all this works? Swez ttocs on 01/12/2008 22:00:36 the battery does not need to go directly to the block. I replaced the factory ground on the momstang which was the short lead from the battery to chassis, and then a ran a ground from the chassis to the engine block right alongside the power wire that I upgraded with the alternator. bdong on 01/15/2008 10:37:28 sorry, been caught up with school.. okay, i do understand, i've heard it before. i'll do that then scott, i'll replace my battery ground with a short one, and ground the block to the chassis at the alternator.. thanks alot ttocs on 01/16/2008 13:54:38 glad to help. ttocs on 01/16/2008 13:54:52 whatcha studyin?
