hey victor, do you know what ta- ta's is slang for in the US? I saw this the other day on the news in the morning. Are these popular in india? Should be good for you guys since they have no stereo?

I do not know the slang for ta-ta's in US.

http://www.tatamotors.com/

heres the manufacturers website...

this car got launched at an on going autoexpo in the capital "Delhi" just 3 days back.

they shall be out for sale only after another 6 months. but this car has totally created a different segment in the automobile market.

instead of fighting for a piece of cake, they have just made the cake larger.

many many people with low household income, can now fulfill their dream of having a car.

Have yet to see this car personally before i would comment otherwise.

As ttocs mentioned, ta-ta's are slang for a woman's breasts.

After looking at this car, it's cheap all right and reminds me of the German Volkswagen (The "People's Car") Beetle of the 1960's and 70's. they were very popular here in the US and had an air-cooled, rear mounted engine. It too was a true gas-sipper and boasted close to 50 MPG or ~20 kM's/liter. It too was a "bare-bones" car w/o A/C, a lame heating system and barely enough power to pull itself out of the mud.

If memory serves me right, the Volkswagen was actually a product of Hitler's economic prosparity plan in pre-WWII days. (Early 1930's) He partnered with Ferdinand Porsche in 1933 to improve the original 1931 German design. "For 5 Marks a week, one could own a Volkswagen". The newer version was patterned after the Porsche Tatra in many respects. If you want more detailed history on the "Beetle", look here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkswagen

Hitler also created the Autobahn as a rapid transport highway to move troops and military supplies rapidly and efficiently from one section of Gemany to Austria and Switzerland. (W/o hindering public transportation or impeding the flow of war goods within German occupied domains) The official name when first built in the 1930s was the "Reichsautobahn" (Motorways of the Reich)

How are the roadways in India these days? I would imagine the infrastructure is good in large cities and between them, but how about the rural and under-developed parts of India? Say more and educate us on the development plans for India.

Ah.. i like 36 ta' D ta' .......................GRIN

roads in india are full of 26 ta' A ta'.............. GRIN GRIN...

very poor road condition except the metro cities and major highways...

no RCC roads here,

all thin layered tar roads with no foundation and support walls....

its a bumpy drive unless you travel in a good vehicle...

you can FEEEEEEEEL the road...!

although they are improving day by day, but the vastness of this country and varied terrain , along with human rights issues raised by the local tribes and communities regarding land procurement for development of infrastructure....all this makes it a slow process...

Victor...

PS: Most indians are wild drivers, moody, lazy and uneducated in traffic regulations.

PSS: This car is definitely going to crowd the place and will call for an immediate infrastructure development drive.... not forgetting other companies trying to tap this newly created segment in the indian automobile industry...

huh, see I never knew swez was such a fan of hitler....

My dad has been in some cars in saudi and he told some funny stories that anything goes... 2 wheels on the sidewalk, 4, whatever........

Yea the newscasters were chuckling at the news of the new car, not the actuall car but the name. tata goes WAAAYY back in the american slang....

And we taught vic something new too, some good old english.

I can't see it being on american roads but we already have the smart cars on the road here in phoenix. They just look funny. Did you guys see the crash test that top gear did on the smart car? Impressive.......

swez on 01/13/2008 21:01:32
Did not see that crash test, but will take your word for it.

Uhm, not a big fan of Hitler. Just happen to follow history of that era a bit and find some interesting parallels in WWII and what WWIII may look like. Washington is preparing for that eventuallity now. Part of that plan is a N/S superhighway. (North American Autobahn)

Most American's are not aware of the new NAFTA Superway system now in the works and well under the radar screen. The plan is to create a super highway that connects Mexico, the US and Canada for intermodal transportation along the I-35 corridor. It is planned from the Mexican port of Lazaro Cardenas and extend all the way north to Duluth, MN. and up into Canada as well. (Cheap import/export super highway)

The idea is part of a grand plan to create a 3 country trade agreement which joins Mexico, the US and Canada into a very large trading partner agreement that will match and eclipse the European Union. Basically, the next big step to expand NAFTA.

To do this efficiently and cost effectively, non-union labor will using this new highway and many of the laborors are going to be Mexican workers. (Low wages, no union hassles and built and used by private contractors)

The net effect here, we'll have our own Autobahn in just a few years. Our boarders will be wide open as far as trade and immigrant passage are concerned. (It will also provide rapid troop and military supply movements within the region that are not using the interstate highways as much as possible) Out of sight, out of mind huh?

Read more about NASCO and the North American Trade Union and you'll get a better idea how this is moving along.

There are great and wide reaching implications in this plan. It's being sold as a cost cutting measure to insure rapid transit of goods, in and out of North America. However, there may be other motivations that are less than desirable if used in other ways. That part is most interesting as this is basically going on right under our noses and few really know the details and politicians are not talking about it either. There's a good reason they are not. I wonder what that reason is.

THINK about that a bit,

My first car was a brand new 1971 super beetle. It cost $2378.00 out the door. I borrowed $1900.00 and made 36 payments of $61.00 for that little unit. The first of many, many bank notes in my life.
This car had a 60HP, 1600cc motor and only got 17 to 19 miles per gallon. Of course the first time I filled it up gas was 27 cents a gallon. On a long enough stretch of road it would eventually get up to 105 mph. I flipped it over on an abandoned airport runway doing donuts before it was paid off but it was totaled but still drivable and I started college in this thing with the passenger side smashed in. I sold it to a guy that specialized in VW's for $400.00 and after fixing it, he sold it to a girl I knew and it stayed around town for years. About 10 or 11 yeqrs ago I bought it back for 2K and had it reworked. I never drove it much but it is on the road now being driven by a friends grand son that I loaned it to when I found out he needed a little help with some transportation to go to Ga. Tech. Maybe it will go for another 37 years.

Here's the newest cheapest car offered by Swez Brownstone. It's only offered to ex wifes and features Hillary Clinton & Ann Coulter as our spokesmodels

The Autobahn was a fast way of carrying German munitions to screw the Americans & allies.

The NAFTA superhighway is the same thing, but with different troops & enemies.

END CAPITALISTIC RANT

Hum, I see that someone here gets the point of NAFTA's Superhighway. Now, how do we ignore the obvious and plan for the eventual?

Swez

PS Thanks for the crash test video ttocs. It looks like this car may have survived the crash, but the passengers may not survive the G-forces at work. Good marketing tool for the car maker, but not so hot for the occupants of the car? Can we say dead duck(s) are still ducks, but dead none the less?
