I am almost done with the rear package tray for the mustang and fairly happy with the way it is comming. it use to be flat with two grills that popped out in a jelly bean shape of some kind. I never liked it and always wanted to change it. I used the panel as my base and I have reshapped it so that it looks a little smoother. Rather then being flat I have two humps that follow the shape of the back seat and then continue down into the window(have you ever seen a convertable tonneau cover for mustangs?). I cut 2 holes in the center of it where 2 of my 4 x-overs will go(flush mounted and lit up), as well as two 5.5" holes for my rear speakers to play through. I got a little crafty and used the part of stock speaker grills for the holes that the speakers will play through. I am going to sand this down to be able to paint it to match the exterior of the car. shortly I will have it to a point I can take pics. Now to my question. I was waiting for some bondo to dry yesterday and was doing some cleaning up. I was about to throw away the remaining grills that I did not use and was looking over them to see if there was anything else I could salvage and found that the 2 metal tags that said "ford mach460" had 3 pins holding them on that were easily removed. Each of the rear speakers and the two tweeters up front had these brushed metal tags to announce the big "mach460" stereo that I have now gutted. I took them to my polishing wheel with some buffing compound and found out that they polish up really nicely. My brother works at a sign shop and is also a great artist so I thought about sending them to him to do a little detail work on them to personalized them for me. They are only 2" x .5" but when they are polished they will catch some attention. I was thinking about having him write: MACH TTOCS MACH SCOTT or something to that fact, any ideas? Replies (6) bamasaint on 01/5/2008 21:51:57 MACH ALPINE, MACH JL, MACH POLK ? Mike swez on 01/6/2008 05:30:45 How about 44 Magnum? SMILE Any pics to show the progress in the rear tray install? Swez ttocs on 01/6/2008 22:41:12 I almost have it in shape to take pics, it rained today for a change which delayed me. I have a little more rough sanding/filling to do and then I will mount the grills in place and then blend them in. I should be able to blend them into the two humps(with the MACH???? tags on them) and paint them to match the rest of the piece. My longterm goal for paint is to get her repainted in the same color(mom left alot of door dings on her) with some black racing stripes(possibly gost black?). I will continue the paint and stripes on this piece and the x-overs to match. if it comes out as nice as I hope I will hapily post pics....... ttocs on 01/8/2008 14:21:32 I had some requests on my mustang forum for pics of the rear deck I am working on(it seems it has bothered more people then just me!). I started a under construction page for this. I hopefully you don't get hijacked this time swez.... http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2395420/11 They have also requested a build article for my kick panels. I have been considering doing something that I could email out as I am sure with pics and explanations it could run a little longer then I want to dedicate my cardomain pages about. I would put it here but have we ever figure out how to post pics here? swez on 01/8/2008 17:19:57 The best we can do here is photobucket links for pics. Looks like a pretty labor intensive build here ttocs, but keep at it as I'm sure it will be a work of art later. Swez PS No spam links this time. Maybe the new filters are blocking them? ttocs on 01/9/2008 12:44:17 wonder how hard it would be to add the ability to add pics here? It has been a huge help at my mustang site for identifying wiring and problems.... I hope to be able to put a guide coat of primer on it today or tomorrow to help me with the final sanding. I know it is hard to identify what is what with all the different colors and layers going on. Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
