pair of kicker comp cvr8 200 watt rms 8's for 100$ used once to test for working.is this worth it.will these work as mild subwoofers (spl) or are they midbass only?keeping in mind the stage is a small everyday driver pickup. any ideas or info would be appreciated. thanks LFV Replies (12) cplkittle on 12/18/2007 21:15:46 95% of all 8" speakers in car audio are subwoofers designed to produce SPL, these are no different. 8" speakers of a lighter build designed for midbass are more difficult to comeby. Today, 6.5" and 5.25" are used for midbass because they fit better in factory locations. Most 8" subs can still be used for midbass though, it's all about enclosure design and crossover points. louisypher on 12/18/2007 21:21:20 i see , well thats not such a bad deal, i do have 6.5"components in the door. i guess the ? is now does anyone have any experiance w/ these and are they worth 100$, they sure seem to be built well, and heavy ,just not much experiance w/ kicker. thanks again LFV trunkisloud on 12/18/2007 22:16:01 i had the cvr10"s behind the seat in a single cab chevy ...they were in pre-fab truck boxes and they still sounded decent...im sure in the right enclosure the 8's will do nicely.... trunkisloud on 12/18/2007 22:16:05 i had the cvr10"s behind the seat in a single cab chevy ...they were in pre-fab truck boxes and they still sounded decent...im sure in the right enclosure the 8's will do nicely.... swez on 12/19/2007 03:54:43 These can be used well for sub applications. Kicker suggests a compact sealed box of 0.4 cf/sub as the min. For more low end bass, they suggest 1.8 cf/sub. In this case, I would look at the space you have available and weigh it all out. (0.8 - 1.0 cf/chamber would be a good blend of low bass and still remain reasonably compact. Swez PS Since these come in 4+4 or 2+2 DVC's, amping them properly does pose a few interesting options. Do you know which coil configurations these are? (2+2 or 4+4 DVC's) Knowing that will determine the amp used to power them. A Class D amp is preferred over 2 channel amps for efficiency and power consumption. (350 - 500 watts is plenty) louisypher on 12/19/2007 08:40:05 these are 4+4 , i was thinking since i have an 800 w audiobahn kicking around (A8002T), that i would use it , its a 2 channel but what the hey, oughta use it. i guess the price is good as i see the cheapest online is around 180$/170$ a pair. thinking these would be a good setup for decent quality sql ,as it seems the superloud rafter rattling has phased out in my mind, just another sign of old age settling in, LOL. thanks everyone and have a great day! LFV swez on 12/19/2007 19:10:56 Sure, why not since you have it handy. This is a strong amp, so setting the gain properly with an AC voltmeter would be a very wise move. Here, you can run boths subs in series/parallel for a net 4 ohm load and bridge the amp mono. Or, run each sub off its own channel in stereo mode at 2 ohm/ch. Either will work just fine. The voltage target per sub would be 20 Vac to each sub at full power. That's 200 watts RMS per sub. (2 ohms) If bridged, and a 4 ohm net load, the voltage target woud be 40 Vac measured at the amp output lugs with subs wired for 4 ohms net. Swez PS Yes, a lot of peeps grow out of the SPL phase as it's very expensive to feed that hobby. What does "LFV" mean? (Am an old foogy and not up on texting shorts) louisypher on 12/19/2007 20:34:40 thanks, i think that points me in the direction i plan to go.lol lol ,in ancient meso-egyptian philosophy there is a symbiotic chain of letters (LFV) that delve within the anachronistic worship of the spirit and the dark underbelly of the one who shall not be named.... lol lol lol just kidding, its actually my initials Louis Fernando Vaughn i too am approaching old fogeyness just a lil accelerated at 36yrs but seriosly you guys are awesome thanks for the tips!!!!! LFV swez on 12/20/2007 08:02:45 Funny... thought it could have been an acronym commonly used in text messaging or initials like businessmen who wear monogramed shirts and such. LOL... 36 years old is moving into the old groove all right. That often means being married, a few kids, a mortgage and well established in ones career path. Hopefully all of those milestones are falling into place for you now. If not, no matter... live each day to the fullest anyway.
