so my car HU dims when i turned the music loud and i dont get enough bass from my amp and subs, as if my bat is not giving it full power ive tried everything to have a smooth sound system but nothing works till i got told to buy a capacitor so i did and now i dont know how to charge or will it even work? Replies (9) Ash on 11/23/2007 14:15:46 Hopefully you didn't open the packaging. Take it back! They don't work and are just costume jewelry. What you need is the big 3, bigger battery and/or alternator. Give the full details on your system and someone will figure out exactly what to do. gsandha99 on 11/23/2007 15:28:56 Hey, just a question...but do you think adding more grounds to a circuit ( in this case the audio system) would reduce the amount of dimming? snappy on 11/23/2007 15:42:43 oo0o0h great i already opened it and it co$t me $100 what a wa$te of money hopefully i can $till return it Ash on 11/23/2007 23:22:21 No need to worry about that right now... What's done is done. If you give the details on what gear you are running, we can figure out the problem. swez on 11/24/2007 14:34:24 Ahhh, I remember this car and reader from a few months ago. The Cap "may" help with minor light dimming issues on modest bass hits, but in this old car, they used very tiny, low power alternators. (Like 60 A's peak) Knowing more about your gear will help us to determine the right output value for your replacement ALT. A few larger gage wires will be needed as well. (The Big 3 Upgrade) One good thing here, this car is pretty basic and does not need a lot of power to run fancy stuff common in most cars today. However, finding a decent ALT may be challenging and you may need to modify the mounting bracket system to accomodate a larger ALT as well. Swez snappy on 11/24/2007 22:12:41 Hey swez its been a long 4months and wasting a lot of money to try to fix the problem with this car and finally today i found out that the MAIN problem was the HU it didnt have burnt fuses or nothing but for some reason that was the problem i popped in a old deck and everything worked perfectly fine so NOW AFTER THIS LONG TIME im HAPPy thank you everybody for your previous help swez on 11/25/2007 04:37:32 Hum, that is very strange that a HU would be the culprit. Not sure why that would be the case, but if it works fine now, that's what matters most. As for the Cap, since it has never been used, you can try selling it off e-bay and recoup some of the cost if it cannot be returned. If you bought it at a local shop, they may take it back and give you a store credit, but not a full refund. Once a shop gets our money, they don't like giving it back w/o some way to recoup the loss in sales revenues. Swez snappy on 11/26/2007 22:03:05 yeah i was pointing fingers at other parts and it turns out that my HU was the problem wow it is weird but anyways now its working better then ever and over all i have spent $700 way more then i ever expected but i have my cap. installed now and im not so satisfied so i will try to return it and see what i can get. thaks for your help swez on 11/28/2007 04:03:18 In your own words... "installed now and im not so satisfied", meaning the Cap right? As a word to others about this experience, feel free to explain why it's not up to snuff and some general comments that other newbies would need to know, based on your own observations.
