Hi Guys,
Real begineer here please be gentle with me. I have decided to upgrade my Car Audio, nothing flash just better sounds.
This may be a dumb question, but here goes.
I have a Clarion Head unit with 2 set of RCA Leads, can I use these to power an amp for 4 speakers? Now if so do I just tape up the 8 speaker wires on the back of the Head Unit?
One more thing, what do you recommend, one 4 Channel amp or two 2 channel amps?
Thank you,Hope someone can help .

Hi Swez,
Thanks for the reply. My car is 1974 Ford Cortina ( medium size saloon ), I am starting with blank sheet, currently no radio or speakers fitted. However I am on a tight budget.

Currently I have ( don't laugh ) a Clarion DRX5575 HU, sony xm-552zr Amp, a cheap nasty sub, unknown specs and 2 Fusion en-fr653 6.5" Speakers. Cost so far $0.00. Plans are to buy an amp or amps and another couple of speakers then begin installing.

What do I want? Nice crisp clear sound, good bass, and loud enough to embarrass my teenage son with dads music.

Just to add a bit more confusion in the mix, I am a Scotsman living in New zealand.

Look forward to any advise.

Thanks,
John

Welcome to CK....

this is one of the most newbie friendly site on the web, and free....we have helped hundreds of newbies successfully install a dream system, some appreciate our efforts and donate to keep this site functional.

we re' patient with members/visitors who help us help them.

Since you know exactly what you want, it should be an easy task guiding you in this install.

"""Nice crisp clear sound, good bass, and loud enough to embarrass my teenage son with dads music."""

I interpret this as

1 - HU with 4ch RCA out and 1 Sub out. preferably 4volt RCA outs.
2 - 50wrms to 75wrms x 4ch amplifier
3 - Set of component speakers with high sensitivity rating and decent price.
4 - Set of coaxial s , 6x9 or 6.5"ers or 5"ers depending on the size provided in your car.
5 - 300wrms x 1 mono block amplifier.
6 - 300wrms , 10" sub woofer.

((All the above from reputed manufacturers who produce bang for buck products.

Alpine, Infinity, JBL and many more are known for the same. There are many high end manufacturers, but those products have higher price tags too..))

7 - Sealed enclosure made to sub woofer specs.
8 - Some sound damping in the doors and boot.
9 - Good Quality cabling, RCA's and other wires.
10 - Systematic step by step install.

Hope this helps.

Victor...

I love this place... well, you're talking to an old timer who can pinch pennies and still have a good time getting to "YES.... this sounds pretty darn good".

Victor has outlined a very solid plan that can be done in stages as time and $$ permits. He is from India and most of us are from Canada or the US and we have readers from all over the globe as well.

Tried looking up the Clarion HU and seems it's primarily marketed in the UK and non-US markets. Do you still have the manuals for it?

That Sony amp is a 2 channel, Class A/B amp and rated at 55 watts RMS x 2 @ 4 ohms and can be bridged to power a modest 4 ohm sub with about 125 watts RMS of clean bass power and a Low Pass Filter for subwoofer applications. (80 Hz LPF and a steep rolloff filter too) Here, a high efficiency sub would do the trick. (4 ohm, 10-12" cone and a box to match its needs. What brands are available in your part of the world?

Fusion makes some pretty good speakers and amps these days. Have a few guys here that have been using them and they are pretty efficient with power and do a decent job at pushing out some strong Mid/Highs with a modest amp power them. A matching set of Component type speakers in the front doors would be a good pairing. The Fusion EN-CM65 (6.5" woofer, tweeter and passive crossover would be a good match.

Now, all we need to figure out is a decent 4 channel amp that is easy to get in your market and then pull everything together as a low budget, good quality audio system.

What say you?
Swez
