There’s a new company that’s doing crazy things with box designs. If you’ve never heard of this, be sure to check it out. They’re called Powered 4 Sound and they have a box called the Snail Shell. It is very interesting. They have some videos too so check it out! www.powered4sound.com

Those 6.5's beat my 2 12's easy... Hard to tell what his subs actually sound like, but I know it sounds a helluva lot better then mine lol. As Swez said I'm hopefully not gonna be messin with mine, but I can't help it, I have to ride to school each day with horrible SQ on some songs, sure I might be able to shake windows on houses, but there's no point to that if you might be damaging you investment/s.

Thanks for showing me that BTW.

That's what I said.

Looks good and this is not a new concept at all. More like an acoustical laborinth or transmission line designed enclosure. Very efficient design as the port signal is delayed enough to be in phase with the subs front cone movement which nets almost twice the efficiency of a normal sub enclosure.

Interesting they are partnered with Adire and using the Brahma series 12" sub... tells me something... these guys know a good sub when they see one.

Neat!

One Question.

Does this type of Design/Box only hit hard on specific frequencies? I noticed in the video they made comment towards a flat response curve. But I am curious if they were just playing 30hz sound waves or everything?

Really depends on the port design and the sub mechanicals here. They seem to tought high SPL aplcations for car audio, but I would bet they can tune for better SQ as well.

I wonder if they have a frequency plot on that site to show SQ or bumps for SPL applicatons. Why not have a look and give me a link and I will try to interpret the graphs for you. I did not see any and the videos they ahve take too long to DL via modem.

This sub design has been used in home stereo and Pro audio many times and silmilar to what Bose does now with wave giude technology. You know... the Table top Bose we see on infomercials etc... Same idea... but now with a potent car sub application and scaled for Car audio.

It's a cool design... but hard to get it right without some very advanced physics and time delay matching of the rear cone ouput well coupled with the front piston area of the cone. I would guess they have to used advanced CAD to design a box well suited to many popular subs.... just my guestimate.
