Steering wheel radio control question...

Alright, new here, so I'll make this real short.

I have a 1999 Grand Prix SE, it's got radio controls in the steering wheel. Fancy-est thing I've ever had and find them to be very useful because the radio controls on the dash seem to be sorta far away, at least compared to my old car.

So, I need a new CD player (E20 error on my stock...means it's dirty or some crap) and I was wondering if I put in my legacy radio (http://www.audio-warehouse.com/web/mdl/LCD75DFX/detail.asp) would I be able to control it with my steering wheel controls like I currently can with my stock radio.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

There are harness kits that can allow one to use the steering wheel controls with Aftermarket HU swaps. Is this your present HU option?

Am not sure if this HU can be configured for remote steering wheel systems. See if one of our Pro Installers picks up on this and offers any specifics to your needs.

There is a module that will convert steering wheel control signals to the same IR signals the HU radio remote. Which means your HU has to have remote controll capabilities.

Aha, that's what I was looking for.

I don't have the remote for the actual HU, but I'm guessing that won't be a problem?

In reality, I can probably buy a new HU if needed, but I'm sort of a broke college kid.

Thanks a lot though, guys, that should probably work.

the ones I am familiar with are a learning type, meaning you will need the old one to program it.

Oh, I see...hm, I guess I'll just get me a new/nicer HU then.

Thanks again fellas.
