Hey whats goin on everyone? Glad to see we still have some of the core here. Sorry I kind of come and go but as of late, I quit my job as a Loss Prevention Manager and moved back to my home town to pursue my Law Enforcement dreams. I'm currently enrolled to start the Police Academy in January and have been taking a physical- conditioning class based on the Academy standards to prepare myself. It's pretty difficult to say the least. On average we're running 3 miles, running every stairway in the stadium and on top of that, doing just about every form of excersize in the book. In a months time I've lost 20lbs of bodyweight and improved my running and overall core strength on top of getting use to the military format of Police work. I've also bought my sidearm and have been shooting a ton. I bought a Smith and Wesson M&P .40 for my off-duty weapon. Absolutely love this gun! Anyways I havent done much car audio between work, class and getting ready I dont have the time, nor the money unfortunally. Whats new with everyone? -30 USFLAG Replies (13) 30Hertz on 10/27/2007 04:11:23 BTW sorry for the grammar and spelling mistakes, I'm to tired to care right now lol! trunkisloud on 10/27/2007 10:11:44 i was gonna get a mp5 with a wilson suppressor....but i didnt have money....so im stickin with the airsoft bb gun.......keeps the peace around my hood. 30Hertz on 10/27/2007 14:00:41 lol that would be fun but not worth the cost IMO (A bit overkill). A solid handgun is more my style but once I'm an officer I'll have my shotgun, and M16/M14 in the trunk. Shooting is a blast. I use to have a little BB Gun I had that I would shoot **** with then upgraded to my Winchester 12guage pump. I've also to my tippmann paintball gun that I play with when I have time. swez on 10/27/2007 15:54:25 Hum, don't know guns all that well, but this sounds like some serious fire power at your disposal later on. The M16 is what, mid-60's vintage, (Vietnam standard issue infantry?) and used a .22 calibur round. (5.56mm) If I recall rightly, the early model issues had a lot of field problems due to overly tight tolerances. Then changes were made and a progression of M16's with A1, A2, A3 and A4 designations with much improved reliability, accuracy and other enhancments cam along later. From what I do recall, (Thanks to the History Channel series... "Tales of the Gun") these were a nightmare to ground troops during the intial roll out and after years of field testing and feedback from the soldiers on the ground, they made several incremental changes that made the M16 a world class, medium range semi-automatic rifle. Anyway, keep up the training and push it hard my friend. We never know what we are truly capable of, until we are pushed to the wall and the some. Knowing your passion and tenacity for excellence, I pray you'll make the grade, get your badge and become one of the best peace officers in the community. Press on brother... am pulling big for you to succeed! Dave Ash on 10/27/2007 17:00:45 Dangit man, haven't seen you on the boards for some time! Good to see you back. Sounds like you've been getting quite a workout. That's good that you stay fit though. 20lbs is quite a bit to lose even though it doesn't sound like much. I bet you can tell when you put old clothes on. Have you had any time to fool around with any projects? The boards have been kinda slow lately so I'm not getting much of a chance to learn anything new. 30Hertz on 10/27/2007 19:23:29 I'll make the grade GRIN . When I do something, I do it to the fullest extent I can do not to mention if my friends can do it, I can dang sure to it too lol. The hard part after that is finding a department and going through the hoops to get hired. Ash, To be honest I haven't really done anything new lately. I had started building some door pods to house my compnents but after I built em, i realized that my crossover placement was to high and would be contacting the seat when I closed the door so I had to abandon the project. Since then I haven't done diddly because I've been saving money and getting everything in line. During that project I did however experiement with polyurethane foam for creating unique shapes that are hard to do with just wood skeletons and fabric to glass. Very fun to work with, but messy and costly lol. Once I get everything set after I graduate I'll start tinkering with my truck again. I've still got to do a custom install on my fathers 57 Chevy Truck. He wants me to do a nice SQ system so I'm building kickpanels with 5.25" Speakers, a single 12" in a sealed center consol and tying it in with an amplifier rack behind the bucket seats. But untill I have time to work in that its going to stay on hold. Ya 20lbs really doesnt sound like much but my pants and shirts def fit looser. My target weight to loose before I start in January is approximately 50lbs or so. I'm a big guy who's built for powerlifing and moving things, not running long distance so I've got to loose the weight and get that long distance stamina going on. cplkittle on 10/28/2007 23:25:27 Welcome back Hertz. Good luck with the police academy... pig! j/k How many noise ordinance tickets do you plan to write? Swez, After carrying an M16A2 for 8 years, I can say they have their problems. Alot of us opted to store our M16 in the armory while in Iraq, and go with the AKs we took from the Iraqi troops. You can bury an AK in the sand, pick it up and empty the magazine with no problems. Get one grain of sand in the M16 and the bolt hangs up, the rounds jam up, the magazine won't click into place...etc. As far as long range goes, nothing beats an M16. I shot company high in boot camp (246/250). I hit a 12" round target 10 for 10 at 500 yards (no scope). They do have a smaller projectile, but the length of the bullet is about 3x that of a .22 rifle. This allows the bullet to travel further and more accurately. Also the length causes the bullet to 'tumble' upon impact. A highly efficient weapon, but also a high maintenance one as well. swez on 10/29/2007 17:11:16 Interesting comments on the M16 vs AK-47. From things I have read, the M16 is a fine rifle for up to 600 yards/meters. Good velocity, decent sights and pretty light weight too. But your comments about how they jam with sand and the AK will not, makes me wonder and the extra maintenance issues too. Hum, it seems like our munitions suppliers read and write their own press releases. (A bit skewed if not outright propaganda) Anyway, you must know how to handle a rifle with that level of shooting skills. I'll take your word for it on the quality issues as again, have not had much time to play with such weapons. Frankly, I hope I never have to either. My weapon of choice is the written word and facts to back them up. Swez 30Hertz on 10/30/2007 02:20:19 Oink Oink lol I'm a basshead at heart so I doubt i'll be writing any sound ordinance tickets really. Unless your bumping late at night in residential areas then your GG. And maybe if I suspect some form of illegal substance in your vehicle asound ordinance stop might be easy to accomplish lol. Hell I plan on making doing some more SPL comps if and when I ever get the money and time. I want to buy a 68-69 Chevelle and restore it. I want to rip out the back seat and create a solid fiberglass enclosure with maybe 3 12.s or 2 15" and amplifiers/batteries in the back. Thats a ways away tho =( SQLThump on 10/30/2007 02:41:59 Wow, Kit, I didn't knowe that the M16A2 was realy that unrealaible. I have heard stories of it vs. the AK, and knew relaibility was a bit sketchy, but never to the point that you would store it for some Ak you found. Definitrly can't balme you, another story I have heard on the AK vs. M16 is that the AK will shoot through a stock of an M16 cleanly, but not the vice versa. But damn, man, that is some great shooting. I considered myself fairly skilled hitting 13 out of 15 with a .22 @ 50 yards within a 3 inch group good, but that is some skills. I have never set out a target at 10 times the distance of my grand acheviement though. I almost picked myself up an AK right after my 18th birthday, as it was at a gun show, and $120 dollars for a weapon, two mags and a box of bullets was definitely a great price. I even had cash in hand, but when I thought of old "Shootuh McBustaCap" at a young age of 18's responsibility, I am very glad I decided not to pick it up. Kind of like "dude, get this, and you will be in the pen within a Month!" Glad I realized how stupid I was at that age and watched my own back..... Anybody got any good suggestions for a nice starter gun? iIhave fired an AK before, but this is still a little bit much firepower for me to own at this point. (even though they are cheap as all hell at gun shows, the AK is still a bit crazy for me) I was thinking a nice lever action .22 for some plinking, but it seems the lever action is about inpossible to find nowadays. 30, i give you mad props for wanting to join the force. I have been considering law enforcement, but the fact of the matter is, I do not know how my freinds, and more importantly family would deal with it, considering 75% of my freinds are still potheads, and that my mom has one of those semi-legal grow permits. Wow, maybe we should all drop audio, and just go blastin' sometime! Il'll bring the Co2!!!!! 30Hertz on 10/30/2007 02:47:57 I use to hang out with the druggies when I was in HS. Fact of the matter is no one in my family is in Law Enforcement and it took me forever till my mother accepted the fact that her son was going into it. Now she's behind me 100% and says she proud of me for all the work I've been putting into it. I honestly don't care what my friends think. What I do for a profession should have no bearing on our friendship etc etc. What they do on their own time is no concern of mine just dont bring that type of material into my life. I've started to surround myself with friends that are all LE minded and love it. Nothing quite like the mindset of a friend in LE. its much like a brotherhood so far from what I can tell. I havent been paintballing in years, I need to go lol MrBrownstone on 11/2/2007 13:48:36 O, so now your 'the man', huh? Well don't worry about the weight you lost, after academy, the doughnuts should balance that out. If you have a choice, pick something other than the M16. Why would the person? bullets are cheaper than 20 yrs in the pen. What'sa bullet? 45 cents? Glad to hear you have found your calling. it's not easy going from creep to crepes (pastry), but also, as we outgrow our childish things, we recognize that law & order is what makes this a great place to live. Without it, we have nothing. I think you'll also find that your friends are those that support you in your decisions. All the druggies, etc. will either outgrow the lifestyle or become one of your 'clients' in the Incarcerary Hotel & Casino. I had a handful of friends from highschool....only 1 that I speak to now. I had 2 dozen friends in college, 1 I speak to now. I had 2 dozen friends since college, 20 of them, I speak to now :-) MrBrownstone on 11/2/2007 13:49:01 PS Let me get the plug in for Kimber Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
