www.signonsandiego.com This wildfire is only 5 days old and is already bigger than the biggest wildfire ever. It's so far out of control, the White House has acknowledged California as a state. In a few hours or overnight tonight, I'll be out of here. USFLAG PS there are so many wildfires (7 or 8) already that there's not enough firefighters to cover this fire. Winds are 30mph gusting to 70mph around the fire areas...making it impossible for fixed wing aircraft to fly flame retardant or water over the fire. PPS we currently have 7 helicopters fighting this one. 7. That's it. PPPS Katrina was a picnic if they don't get some resources on this one. 100,000 acres gone in 5 days. Replies (8) gsandha99 on 10/22/2007 17:23:20 recognized california as a state? im canadian, but i thought california already was a state....or maybe you meant state of emergency? **** man....hope you get out ok with family....Godspeed MrBrownstone on 10/22/2007 21:46:47 actually that was a play on words. California is a Democratic stronghold...so strong that Republican candidates don't even spend money here or even tour. Sure, they come for fundraisers, but they don't even campaign. California is it's own country. With a population and economy bigger than Canada. It's in the top 10 largest economies in the world....and it's a STATE. gsandha99 on 10/23/2007 12:43:38 lol..easy there cowboy.....to quote you "California is it's own country........and it's a STATE" there should be no apostrophe in the first "its" because it is not short for "it is"....the second one is correct however. Also, you statement contradicts itself. i understand what your tyring to say though.... swez on 10/23/2007 13:37:44 LOL... an English lesson on this site is a lost cause. But many of us do try to get the point across well enough anyway. Oh Schnitz!!! Oh, BTW... this is a PG site and the boss doesn't have much tolerance for "colorful language", profanities or explitives. Sure, frustration and things not going right will elevate from time to time, but we try our best to keep it clean. That's one thing that sets this site apart from many others and we like it that way too. Thanks in advance for the cooperation. SMILE Swez cplkittle on 10/24/2007 09:03:42 If you cross the border into california with a joint in your hand... nothing is said. If you cross the border eating an orange, you are thrown to the ground, cuffed and treated like a terrorist! weirdos SQLThump on 10/24/2007 16:59:01 No crap Kit! The only time I went to Cali was on vacation when I was like 12, and they confinscated all of our fresh fruit and veggies. Whats even worse, we had just bought them a few hours earlier! Fruit flies or not, it was rediculous. Also, while we were there, I had a nasty cough and could hardly talk, people said it was from all the pollution. Believable in the mid 90's for sure, but whatever the case, it sure made Disneyland suck...... MrBrownstone on 11/2/2007 13:52:15 Wild fires were wicked. In some areas, just smoke. In others, evacuation. California is the 2nd largest economy in this hemisphere, so expect that there is quite a bit of diversity. Many neighborhoods are pristeen, and preserved. South central, ick. Before judging a state, remember that there is a very long coastline, 2 different mountain ranges, 3 deserts, and 10 metropolitan areas. How much have you seen? SQLThump on 11/2/2007 18:49:10 A buddy at work today said that a 10 year old boy started this megablaze. Stated that he turned himself in, and that they want to put him away. Poor kid, he did cause a lot of damage, but at least he went back and took responsibilty for his actions. I know what being a young pyromaniac is like. I am sure there is a lot of diversity, and the first time I visited Cali, it wasn't that the place was bad, but they confiscated our fruit right when I was wanting an orange. We spent the whole trip in various parts of L.A., mainly Anahiem and Hollywood. My main beef was that I was sick as hell, going to see things I had wanted to see my whole young life, and couldn't enjoy because I was about ready to drop dead I felt so bad. This started the first morning we arrived, and by day three, we had to leave Universal studios because I really couldn't do much at all by then. Did get to see the ocean for the first time the night we got there, and that was great, especially because I wasn't sick yet. I went to Santa Maria (or Santa Monica, whichevder is the smaller one) a few years after that, arrived on Halloween, and this trip was much better. We didn't do much, as my pops helping an old military buddy was the trip's purpose, but I din't get sick, met some cool people, and got hooked up like MAD when I went trick or treating. People were VERY genorous, I went to one house full of early 20's people having a house party, they had no candy, and this gorgeous girl shows up and finds me about 20 minutes later, hooks me up with a whole bag of Snickers, and apologizes deeply for not having it to begin with. That was one of the weirdest, and coolest, things that has ever happened to me.... Actually, I saw a little bit of San Francisco on that trip too. We only went to some lady's house for a minute, but it was kind of cool. I would like to return and check it out another time, but that won't be happening any time soon.
