Hello,
Im new here, and I read an article your wrote some time ago in which you offered help with wiring diagrams,
I have a 1992 nissan pathfinder and i am installing a clarion dxz725 hu, but i think the truck has 1 or more factory amps installed, the original radio was stolen and the harness was cut,i need to get my radio to work with the factory amp(s)...or maybe bypass the factory stuff alltogether, but i dont know the factory radio color codes or where the amp(s) are located.
Please help me out before I go insane !!!....LOL
Thanks in advance

Here's the wiring color codes for the factory radio:

Factory amps? Not sure on that one and only if this was the Premium Sound system package. Most guys just start fresh and use aftermarket amps and speakers that are fitted to the stock locations and enough RMS power handling for the amps used.

This vehicle notes 5-1/4" speakers in the front and 6x9" ovals in the rear side panels.

That Clarion HU is very nice and has 2 pairs of RCA outs for Front/Rear and Sub amp feeds. It also has a 2 band Parametric EQ feature. (Helps tailor your sound system to the vehicle)

unfortunately older amplified nissan systems have individual amps on each speaker. best bet is to try to integrate into the factory wiring, which swez provided info for. there is no amp turn-on wire listed, so go through and identify and connect the wires in the diagram and you'll have a couple left over.

with the remaining wires stripped back and the radio powered up with speaker wire attachments, provide 5amp fused 12v power to the remaining wires until you hear sound. that's the amp turn-on wire, attach it to the blue / white wire on the clarion. if there's none available, attach it to the red wire on the clarion harness.

Tech tip: When using the HU remote to turn on remote amps, most REM circuits can safely provide 250 - 300 mA's of current. (0.25 - 0.3 amperes) That's the blue/wt stripe line in the HU harness.

If using ACC/IGN wire to power amp remotes, this circuit is more robust and a larger fuse rating is OK. (Red wire on HU)

Good point, Swez. But at the same time, it only takes a few milliamps to turn on the amplifiers. You should only use a fuse rated just above the max current of the item you are powering.
In other words, don't use a 30A fuse on something that only draws 3 amps.

The amplifiers get their power from a seperate fuse in the fuse box. The remote turn on wire takes the same current as an aftermarket amplifier (~100 mA) to trigger.

Swell... often wondered how much current a factory amp draws for their remote turn on needs. Now we all know... CLAP

tret,

Please copy and paste the above to a new post of your own and we'll try to help.

Does this vehicle have a Becker audio system with external amps to power the speakers?
