Im powering 2 Alpine Type-R 12"s in a sloted ported box. I listen to rap and hip-hop the most. Replies (3) trunkisloud on 09/29/2007 19:40:28 the subsonic filter should be tuned according to your port tuning on your box....do you know what the box is tuned at?? swez on 09/30/2007 00:03:51 OK, there are several ways to tune a system and much of it depends on the level of bass you want in the mix and how well your Mid/High speakers can keep up with the bass w/o being drowned out. 1. Low Pass Filter: Set between 60 - 100 Hz. 2. Bass Boost not needed in most cases (If used, +6dB boost is plenty) 3. Subsonic filter: (30-40 Hz.) 4. Gain level: Adjust for balance and sufficient bass when your HU is set at about 80% of max volume. *** Note: *** For very strong and powerful bass, we often use test tones, 40-60 Hz.) and an AC voltage meter to get the most clean bass from the amp/subs. This is an exacting process and one needs the proper tools to do this correctly The other option is tuning things by ear with music we know very well. Here, we set the HU to level in #4 and dial up the bass gain until we get a full, clean and pure bass bump. If you overshoot the gain, bass looses punch, clean tones and sounds raspy. That's is hard on the amp and subs, so go easy on the gain adjustments. FYI: If the sub are new and have not broken in yet, go easy on them for the first 6-8 hours of listening as they break in and loosen up a bit. Then you have even more deep bass as they break in. Questions/Comments? Swez cplkittle on 09/30/2007 01:19:43 This is the easiest way to set gain: download this excel spreadsheet and follow the instructions http://www.datafilehost.com/download.php?file=6d26c621 There is a 60 second 60Hz test tone inbedded in the spreadsheet. Just burn that, grab your multimeter and a small screwdriver and you are all set. Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
