Im installing my new subs in my old box, should i screw the subs in the same holes in the box or make new ones. And any recommended on type of screws to use on it. Before i used some self-taping wood screws. The eyeholes on the subs are little bigger though so i though of just gettin bigger dia. screw and use the same holes. That should work right? Ive herd of puttin a thin foam between the sub and the box to help on vibration. Is it worth doing? Replies (5) swez on 09/25/2007 14:17:49 If the subs are not super heavy, (Less than 20 lbs each) use #10-12 sheet metal screws in fresh holes that have been pilot drilled with a 1/8" drill bit. (4 screws min.; 8 max) If the subs are very heavy, use Tee nuts and 1/4" x 20 x 1" stove bolts that have phillips type heads. (These don't slip as easily and less likely to damage the sub w/ a screw driver mishap) If your box is carpeted already, that is a good gasket. If no carpet is used, foam tape is a very good gasket. (3/8" wide; 1/4" thick is plenty good) Swez Jo7Gle on 09/25/2007 14:19:32 I just bought the alpine 12" type R subs so what would be better? swez on 09/25/2007 16:40:22 I cannot find the weight info on this sub. The Magnet structure is about 7 lbs and then the basket, coils and will add a few more pounds too. In this case, this sub has 8 mounting holes. Use them all and the #10-12 self-tapping screws. That sould secure these subs if they all get a good bite into the front baffle panel.
