If I can just find a way to get this job without 8 years of medical school...I'm in like Flynn!

If only there was a laser removal program for some of the other regrets people have...like you kids. HEYOOOOOOOOHH! It's Monday.

DISCLAIMER: The phrase 'in like Flynn' is only understood by people age 75 & older and was included in this post for the benefit of Swez and other fossils.

Hehe yeah, "In like Flynn is an old saying". Roughly translated, it has several meanings. "Everything is OK". But the general idea, Errol Flynn was a "Ladies Man". He was also well know as a "wildman on a matress". (Libido on steroids)

Flynn was a very popular film star in the 1930's - 40's. He was very notable reputation for being a real "Womanizer" both on camera and about town. He was a favorite leading man in his days in Hollywood.

In recent times, "Slick Willy" A.K.A... B.J. Clinton would fit the modern day architype.

PS Yes, I am a living fossil to some but that's OK by me. It's better than being a legend in ones own mind. (Yes, if the shoe fits, then wear it) LOL

Hey I'm not a legend in my own mind, I'm a 'mattress giant'

Thought you might appreciate some feed back. Man, the boards have been boring the past 2 years. What gives?

It's not like I'm not using my best material here. heck, people aren't paying for my stand-up act because I'm giving it all away for free here.

Wow, Swez.
you should write a book on everything you know, sell it in volumes like the world book encyclopedia.

I looked up infinite wisdom and saw your picture.

Have thought about that idea for a few years. (Writing books that is)

The problem is more about topic(s) and how deep to go in any given area. Then, there's the publishing wall to hurdle as well. This takes connections and I don't have a clue on that one just yet. (Passion for a subject will probably dictate the topic and also what will have the most impact on readers)

One never knows their true calling in life until others point it out and encourage/inspire us to write it down? Too funny... "Infinite Wisdom"?
That comes from endless curiousity, a desire to master a few things in life and "talent on loan from God". May we use these talents well and help others in the process.

Swez

PS Thanks for the kudos and encouraging words! HAPPY

If you have thought of writing a book, I would say go for it. If not for anything else than just to relax and clear your mind.

When I was a boy of fourteen, my father was so ignorant I could hardly stand to have the old man around. But when I got to be twenty-one, I was astonished at how much the old man had learned in seven years.

Mr Swezene, publishing is now much easier than it was in the past. when we were younger you had to find someone willing to set all the type and arrange artwork etc. and it was not worthwhile for small runs if a work failed to sell enough copies.
Today, with publishing on demand, people will beg you to let them publish your work, especially if you present it in the proper format and ready to go. The main problem these days is getting the word out to your target audience. The marketing can of course be very tricky. The good thing is there is no need to print and warehouse large numbers of product when more can be printed, bound, wrapped and boxed at the touch of a button.
You should put something together when the right idea hits, you might enjoy doing it and who knows...look at that M. J. Rowling girl..she is a billionaire with her little series...Harry Potter...rides a broom

Hum, that is interesting James. Would definitely need a good proof reader/editor to help on the gramatical formatting and other writing rules that I never paid attention to in school. (BORING)

Target marketing is another interesting aspect here as frankly, how many people really take the time to read a book these days? Yes, I used to read a lot at one point in life. Now, an "Executive Summary" is often as far as I go, unless the topic is very compelling and very interesting.

THINK... maybe that's not the best approach here... seeking inspiration might fit better for a guy like me. In a nutshell, helping others is probably more a lifestyle and comes naturally too. After years of reading others books on self-help and relationship building books, that might be a springboard of topics. There are so many good authors out there to learn from too.

Yep, inspiration is the driving force to do this type of project. Just need to chew on things, read a few more good books and look for that inspiration that will last long enough to finish a project of this nature.

Thanks for the FYI James,
Swez

PS Dave is good. Swez is good too. Mr. Swezene makes me look over my shoulder and see if my Dad is standing behind me.... LOL My dad passed away 11 years ago, but there is so much of him in my daily routine and thinking patterns as I get older. Never really noted that until my Mom pointed it out a few times over the years.

She'd say... "David, you have so many traits like your father... when I catch you thinking things over or pondering a difficult situation, you quietly sit in a secluded spot, jotting down some ideas and have a look that seems you have left the planet and are deep in outer space". Mom was right... I was taking a sanity break. ;-)

I edited a book for a friend of mine. he self published it.

Publishing isn't the biggest problem, it's having a viable product and the marketing to make it happen. There are 2 conventions to getting a book sold:

1. Become famous (OJ) and write a book with or without writing skills

2. Write a groundbreaking piece of work, and find a distributor

If writing your 1st book paid money, Swez & I would have already become accomplished authors. Unfortunately, the book doesn't pay until AFTER you've written it, distributed it to a number of outlets and made some fantastic sales.

If someone were willing to give me $15,000 to write a book on the trials of mortgage & monetary policy of the past 10 yrs, I'd take 6 months off, live on scraps & ramen noodles and make it happen. But, since noone does, I do it in my free time...and when I have the emotional energy to reenter that realm with seemingly no immediate reward.

If you want to write a book, start with premise. Formulate an outline. Then, populate the outline. I've edited 3 books...pro bono (Bono now has a double meaning since he doesn a lot of charity/free work), and the hardest part is getting the author back into the writing room after the weight of writing the book is 'over.'

I've personally been the whip cracker on one book to get a guy to meet his own publishing deadline and I gotta tell ya, I don't think I got paid enough. Heck, I got free meals for about 15 days, advanced copy, and a chance to live the dream of watching a book become widespread.

Of course, the book sold enough copies to cover the cost of publishing, a couple of bucks for the authors time, but was a great historical document that may live on a 2nd life 20 yrs from now.

At any rate, wanna write a book? Just frickin do it already!
