Its been a little while since ive posted on here, but i need some help selecting some new subs. Heres what im dealing with.

The box is a (RIT) brand box.
DIM:W = 30.5in, D = 14in at top, 16.5in at bottom, H = 13
It has a divider to seperate the subs.
Made with 3/4in board
I added 3in x 7in port holes to each chamber.(i can plug them if needed) I believe this box was ment to be sealed. I didnt no wut i was doin when i ported them. Let me no if its ok sealed or ported. OR if I should get a new one.

My amp is a Fusion PP-AM20001. Check it out and let me no wut u think. Is this a good amp? I got a good deal on it. Im still new to this so any info would help. Im not to sure wut I have here.

Max Current: 100A
Full Rated Power Distortion (Max) 1kHz: 0.45%
THD @ Rated Power 1kHz/100Hz: 0.3%
Frequency Response Hz (-3dB): 10Hz - 250Hz
Signal to Noise: 90
Variable Low Pass Filter: 12 dB/Octave
Bass Boost @ 45Hz: 12dB
Input Sensitivity: 0.2 - 8V
Input Impedance: 47K
Fuse Rating: 25A x 4

my budget is around. $200-$400
Any Info would help. if u need any info from me just ask.

That box nets about 1.3 cf/chamber. The subs used will determine if this is sufficient for porting, sealed or both. Do you have a web link to this enclosure to confirm the details?

With the ports mentioned, you can expect a PTF, (Port Tuning Freq) of around 40 Hz., in this size enclosure. (1.3 cf/chamber) Not a bad option for dual 10's, or for dual 12" subs. Alpine SWR-1242D

Alpine's SWR series subs are a good fit for this box. You can use a pair of 10's or 12's with very good results. These are SQL type subs. You may also consider pure SPL subs that operate in smaller ported enclosures as well. (This takes some real digging on your part)

PS A little web searching will bring the price down to about $125.00/sub (S/H inc.)

as being someone that has done some research on fusion products that amp is pretty solid...its in their mid-high end series...meaning theyre not the baddest but they can hold their own.....the fuse value is 100 amps so you might need to pay attention to the electrical system performance.....maybe a big 3 ubgrade but i think it should definately power a pair of type r's..swez comments?

Big 3 upgrade is likely needed for this amp. (Depending on how hard one pushes the amp/subs in daily use)

The Alpine Type SWR-1242D subs are well suited to this amp and box.

I really do like these subs swez thanks, i think im going to consider them. Is it ok to leave the box ported or should i seal it?
and how do i run them from the amp? Im not to good with the wiring of the subs.

Besides the Big 3. what else should I consider for power or would i be ok. Its in a 1994 Lincoln connental. I bought a Kintik Battery to put in series with the power in the trunk. I was told buy a dealer that for this amp it would be a good ideal and i did a little research and they're recomended over a cap. Last time i has this amp hooked up to some Audiobahns 1205, and i had some dimming but i didnt do the Big 3 upgrade yet so i hope this helps.

Try them ported initially since you have that option now. Porting gives a few extra dB of bass in the 40-55 Hz. range. If the bass is too boomy, a little adjustment on the Bass EQ should get you to a good mix.

If you go sealed, plan on cutting up some wood and fill each chamber to make them smaller. The optimal space for these subs in a sealed box is about 0.85 ft^3/chamber.

As for wiring these subs, these terminals come with jumpers and a wiring diagram to help you do it right the first time out. The target is 1 ohm for this amp. (500 watts RMS per sub) The manual shows a picture at the top/right of a 2 ohm wired sub. See page 4 for details. Just pay attention to speaker polarity as you wire.

http://akamaipix.crutchfield.com/Manuals/500/500SWR1242.PDF

The amp has dual speaker output lugs. Each woofer has 2 wires and the amp has 2 paired speaker lugs. Couldn't be easier huh?

As for your Lincoln electricals, that Kinetiks battery is a solid product. They are built well and several guys here are now using them over the Optima Gel Cells. That and the Big 3 wiring should be sufficient to power this amp.

PS These Alpine subs are pretty robust and a great value for the money. They are designed for deep lows and crisp upper bass. The box and install location makes all the difference.

These are 4ohm daul subs, right? the diagram shows how to run reach speaker at 4ohm. how do i change that to get 1ohm? im not too good at this part of hookin up. is there a good artical u recommend me read to learn more on this. i want to learn everything i can about car audio.

here ya go brotha....this link should show you all you need on this wiring.....it can also help you with other wiring for different subs

Thanks for the diagram it really helps.

The RF wiring diagram is laid out well and easy to understand when using subs that have opposing coil posts. The Alpine subs have a 4 in line lug design. Using the supplied jumpers make wiring them easier, but also a little confusing to the newbie.

The Alpine .pdf shows the position of the jumpers to get a 2 ohm load from one sub. (That's what we want... 2 ohms per sub) Sub A & B are 2 ohms each.

Since this amp has 2 pairs of output terminals, Sub A is wired to one set of lugs. Sub B is wired to the other. A pair of sub wired to the amp like this, nets a 1 ohm load to the amp.

Hope that helps more than confuse. Pictures or diagrams are so much easier, but we have limits on diagrams in this forum format.

So if im getting this right I do not bridge this amp right.
Now how do i tune this amp? It has something called "subsonic" control on it. im not sure what this is.
Here is a pic of the controls.

Thank for all the help guys. Im tring to learn all i can.

trunkisloud on 09/19/2007 14:52:27
this amp is a monoblock so it only has one channel....so you cant bridge anyway...i see that it has 2 sets of speaker terminals..but they are not seperate channels....just more of the same to allow easier connection......you will only need the subsonic filter if you are using a ported box which it says that you are.....so the filter will not allow the frequency drop below the set level.....so if your port is tuned for 30hz, then you will set the filter for that to keep the sub from going lower preventing damage to the sub.

Jo7,

Relax... we'll get you through all the details and learning this stuff takes time. (We've helped thousands get throught this) SMILE

As Trunk said, this amp is not bridgable. (1 channel MONO amp) But for ease of wiring 2 subs, it offers 2 output terminal sets.

As for setting the Infrasonic filter, this is used for ported subs only. Since we calculated the tuning frequency is close to 40 Hz., setting this filter at roughly 30-35 Hz., it will help protect ported subs from damage.

BTW, we have a lot of good DIY and FAQ topics on this site. Read them as you have time as they contain a lot of good info. Some of them may not apply to your specfic needs now, but it will give the reader a good feel for how a given system works and how to set them up correctly.
