The kenwood kdc-mp2028 seems like a pretty old model HU. From what I did find on the Internet, it has 2 pair of RCA outputs for outboard amps and these are 2.0 volts. The usable internal amps are about 22 watts RMS per channel @ 4 ohms.

Kenwood KDC-MP2028 Specs & Summary of Features:

50W MAX x 4 High Power Amplifier
MP3, WMA and ACC Playback
SAT Radio Ready (Sirius) HD ready
CD Text and MP3/WMA Tag Informtation Display
System Q
Dual 2 volt Pre outs

OK, the Solobaric sub mentioned, is that the 2+2 DVC version? If yes, it needs between 500 - 600 Watts RMS of power and you have 2 basic options:

A Class D Mono amp (1 ohm stable is best if you have a 2+2 DVC)
2 channel amp, 250 - 300 Watts RMS x 2 @ 2 ohms (A good option if the price is right and adequate power to run it)

Do you have a budget # in mind at this time?

Also, this much sub power is likely to overpower stock speakers when using only the HU amps to drive them. A modest outboard amp and aftermarket speakers that can handle the extra power, would be something to consider in the future. (Plan your system accordingly)

Finally, what is the vehicle, (Make and model) you are working with here? Knowing more about your present and future plans now can save time and money later.

Comments?

PS It seems your screen name is familiar, but its been a while? If new, welcome to CK!

Good stuff... if this Kenwood HU, (Deck) works to your satisfaction and has the features you need, use it until it poops out. Then you'll have a good reason to try other products later.

One thing good about stock speakers, they are efficient and can handle the present power of this HU. However, they are low budget and very cheaply made and eventually wear out. When you are ready to replace them, plan for powering these with a moderate power amp. (50-85 watts RMS is plenty)

Possible replacements to consider: Polk, JBL, Infinity, Kenwood Excelon or other well-known brands.

Sub amp options: Class D Mono, 1 ohm rated

If you elected to use a 2 channel and bridge it Mono, there are many more choices. However, power consumption and efficiency become more of an issue. Class A/B amps are fine for full range use, but are only ~60% efficient. Class D amps are more like 80% efficient and easier on the electricals.

Looked up the stock ALT for this truck and noted it probably has a 100/105A output ALT. There is enough reserve power here to power the HiFonics amp mentioned. You may wish to consider a larger CCA rated BAT and Big 3 Wiring upgrades if light dimming issues are problematic. Can cross that bridge later if needed.

What say you now?

PS There are upgrade kits for more output available if needed. If you have a Class IV or higher towing package on this truck, it may have the 140A ALT as stock. (That would be plenty of reserve power for 2 amplifiers as needed)

Very nice selections here and we know you will like the Excelon Series products from Kenwood.

Here's a link to the speakers that are listed for the 2/4 door Yukon:

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-JcrVhAeYpIq/app/car/mycar.aspx

I would just leave the 4x10" speakers in place and and disconnected. Focus on the front and rear door panels and all will be good.
