I've just installed a new head unit and it will not power up. I checked it with a volt meter and it is getting 12Volts to the plug that plugs into the back of the head unit, but it still won't power up. Is this just a bad head unit? Replies (1) trunkisloud on 09/11/2007 21:49:24 what is the model of the head unit....it could be bad....but lets check some other things first....should be a yellow wire and a red wire for power....yellow wire should be hooked to constant power....red should be hooked to switched wire from accessory.....is this how it is wired as of now??? remember both wires need to be hooked up in order for it to work...are you using a wire harness adapter? or did you splice into the factory wires.?? if this is all correct then pull the harness out of the head unit and check the prongs where the harness plugs into to make sure they are not bent...also check the wires on the harness to make sure they didnt back out of the plug.....also make sure you are grounding to the chassis....and a lot of times your antenna has to be hooked up to get a good ground as well...ive had a few head units that would not power on unless the antenna was plugged in...
