I added some more pics on my fiberglass progress. I worked on the angling ideal that Swez suggested. I may finish the first of two boxes this weekend. I think I may wait on the second and try to get an amp and everything else first and just use one for a while. I think its coming out okay for a rookie with no glass experience. Whatcha think?THINK http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2476188/2 Replies (7) ttocs on 09/8/2007 17:53:06 looks good so far. If I could give one piece of advise though it would be to do all your build up of the thickness from the back. The flees when streched and glassed makes a nice smooth texture that you can simply knock the high points down with a sander and the fill and smooth easy for finishing. If you add a couple of layers of matt on top of it then it is gerally not as smooth and takes alot more sanding. If the hole for the sub is big enough use it to build up the inside and save yourself some time. Victor on 09/8/2007 17:54:18 That is a neat appreciable job.... would have liked a bit more curvy design.. but that is some neat work you have done in fabrication.... what would be the thickness of the Fibreglass.. 6mm..??? Victor.... ravin on 09/8/2007 18:51:36 Thanks for all the support guys. Victor as far as the thickness goes I think the back form varies from 1/4" to 1/2" in spots. I had trouble telling how thick it was. After I cut the excess off I was supprised that some areas were thicker than I thought, and some not so thick. Scott, good point about building it up from the inside. I think I may try it although I did already add a couple of layers of mat to the outside. Thank god for belt sanders! The trouble I have now is making a hole for the trunk arm to slide into the box. I have a plan that I think will work. P.S. Scott how did your surgery go? I hope it all went well. Ash on 09/8/2007 20:00:04 Yeah, what are you doing online "ttocs"? I take it everything went well? Looks pretty good Ravin. Nice pics too. How did you come up with the airspace? I'm not trying to knock you, but you gotta be careful as that is a lot of hard work. I would hate to do all that and wind up with the internals too small. I think building up from the inside would look better as well, but it will take away from the total volume unless you overshoot to compensate. A lot of thought has to go into building those, but it looks like you got it all down. In fact it is inspiring me to do mine as well. Good work! Be sure to keep us posted. Ash, ravin on 09/9/2007 02:37:54 I used packing peanuts and an empty box. Subtracked .25 for the speaker and .06 for the port. Roughly 1.7 cu ft. total airspace. Victor on 09/9/2007 06:46:23 You could do one layer on the inside for sure.. it wouldnt make a huge difference to the internal space... seems workable... go ahead.. ttocs on 09/10/2007 04:09:35 eh surgery should have been better, see the other post... Any time you can save sanding you save time. That is a tip that was passed down to me by some insiders that know what they are doing. Airspace is not a huge concern in a box like this. Estimate it and make it a little bigger and you can always tune it by adding material inside the box to get the correct airspace. It is obviously a little harder to add airspace other then with polyfill Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
