JBL Sub-What amp?

My friend has a JBL lc-s1000w sub. He had a bad amp hooked up, and it just died (dunno how). I've had Legacy for a while, though its not the best, it gets the job done, and then smoe, for my JL's.

I was thinking would this work out?

It's "1000W" bridged 1 way (i know not literally 1000w), but for my friends budget, and my expierences, it seems ok.

Thoughts? Better suggestions?

Thanks
-Steve

There sure are many other amps that would fair better than the legacy one you have noted.

It is most advisable to go for a Class D monoblock amplifier to power a subwoofer..

Please look for reputed brands and you shall be very happy.

look for amps that put out 150wrms@ 4 ohms and 300wrms@2 ohms... this amp shall be useful for future upgrade of a new sub too..

Looks like this friend of yours has already bought the legacy amp. See if he can exchange it for a better monoblok amp..

Those subs are somewhat limited in low frequency. Excursion I imagine is limited as well because that spec is not given.

Looking at the specs and run through BassBox Pro ( specifically the Fs and Qes ratio), this sub should perform better in vented designs. In the recommended 1ft^3 sealed it's Qtc is rather low with a fairly high rolloff (78hz). Results in a sort of boomy with lack of low end response. In the 1.5ft^3 vented, output is somewhat smoother with far stronger lowend down to 35hz. That will fair better with rap music and such. (In case you didn't notice, rap always sounds better with ported boxes).

The key to a sub like this is a good vented box ran with a amplifier with subsonic filtering to protect it. Check Partsexpress for the Silent Subwoofer mono amp. It isn't a class D, but it is 2 ohm stable, has a good crossover & subsonic filter @ 25hz. It is just as inexpensive as the amp you posted and has good ratings from those who own it. The power matches perfectly with 50rms per sub to spare. This leaves him with an very inexpensive, but reliable and upgradeable setup.
