I have 2 Audiobahn AW1205N 2-ohm DVC subs and an Audiobahn A8001DT amp. I was wondering if the amp is good enough to power the subs. Also, what will be the best idea to wire the subs. I already upgraded to a high power alternator and capacitor. Any help will be appreciated. Replies (8) swez on 08/29/2007 15:41:12 Welcome to CK! These will work together but the amp is rated at 500 watts RMS @ 2 ohms, 800 @ 1 ohms. If you could manage a 2nd matching amp, this would be a solid bass kit. (2 amps, 2 subs wired 1 ohm each) The subs are rated at 1000 watts Continous Power (RMS) each. With only 1 amp, you'll be running a 2 ohm load and 500 Watts/2 = 250 Watts RMS per sub. Not bad, but not blowing blue flame nitro either. The optimal approach would be one amp/sub. This way each sub gets 800 + Watts RMS each. Comments? Swez SQLThump on 08/29/2007 16:02:11 Kind of like BB10's setup He is very satisified with his setup, and it is identical, except he has the second sub amp. You may want to look into this......... mastermind48045 on 08/29/2007 20:30:44 Can I go with a 2 channel amp and if so what will be the best amp to get that can power the subs. jamesp on 08/30/2007 07:41:52 You could, but if you want to send 800W+ RMS @ 1 Ohm to each sub a 2 channel amp that can do this is likely to draw twice as much power as another class D sub amp and be very demanding on your electrical system........ Another matching amp, rewire your subs to 1 Ohm and you will have 3++ times more power to each sub than you now have. For the best choice utilizing the stuff you have refer to the posts above. swez on 08/30/2007 08:28:28 If you went with a 2 channel amp, (Class A/B type) power consumption will be considerable and efficiency losses are much higher then using Class D amps. (James made a solid call here) Your best option is to get a matching amp and run one sub per amp at 1 ohm per amp. That is both efficient and reasonable to consider later. For now, you would be better off running only 1 sub off this amp and see how well it performs. In a well designed port/vent enclosure, this should be a very solid bass engine. Here are the recommended sealed and ported specs from Bahn on this sub: http://www.audiobahn.com/Audiobahn06/images/tech/2006/boxParams/AW05N_box_specs.pdf Here, the biggest impact enclosure is the Ultimate SPL version. However, for best over all performance, the Everyday Bass enclosure would be a solid target to shoot for. Swez mastermind48045 on 09/8/2007 12:40:23 I ordered another Aufiobahn A8001DT amp. What will be the best Multi-amp wire kit to get? swez on 09/8/2007 22:34:28 Your main power feed line should be 1/0 gage wire and fused at the battery with an ANL type, 150A fuse. From there, you'll want to use a distribution block that splits the 1/0 wire down to a pair of #4 gage power lines for each amp. Use #4 wire grounds as well. Each amp has RCA output jacks so you can use a short pair of RCA cables to link one amp to the other for signal inputs. FYI: These amps are pretty hungry for current at high listening levels. You may need a dedicated battery as a "current buffer" to keep up with both amps' current draw demands. As for Wire Kits, Stinger, Street Wires and Knukonceptz all make good wiring and hardware. I've used Street Wires, Monster and Knu. Of the 3, I found the Knu products to be very good value and quality for the price: http://www.knukonceptz.com/ Have a look at their web site and if you need more assistance picking out the right gear, just ask. Swez MrBrownstone on 09/10/2007 12:53:26 You definitely want to have a larger vented enclosure for those woofers if you can only afford 1 amplfier right now. Those subs have a surround that consumes surface area and replaces it with longer excursion. Those woofers are very stiff, but work very well in the vented enclosure. As far as wiring, you could get by with 2guage so long as you don't add much more current draw. I would get the 1/0 as I feel you'll soon upgrade to 15" woofers and 4kW of amplifier at some point :-) Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
