EEEXXCCCEEELLLEEENNTTT!!!

My sub popped out a dent in one of my doors over the first few months.

KEEP BUMPIN!!

Like Mr. B used to say a lot... "If you're mirror ain't shakin', ya got ripped off."

Hum, new way to remove door dents and shallow panel deformations. That's a new one.

its tough to sell that "dent story" to me....

for the rear view mirror i cud still be convinced...

and ""if your mirror ain't shaking, i guess u got some real good damping done on your install"" GRIN

if you can decode this, you can build yourself a nice music system.THINK

Victor....COFFEE

I would not take pride as an installer if my cars rear view mirror, god forbid, falls off someday....

swez on 08/28/2007 17:02:59
Nor would I, unless he had +140 dB worth of bass or more and likes not having a rear view mirror.

That dent we noted in your door on some previous pics. Show us the fix and maybe we'll be converted. SMILE

speaking of db.. do u think i am even hitting 130 based on your knowledge of systems

SQLThump on 08/28/2007 19:17:49
Bandpass box with the soundport facing the door, about 18" from the door.....It took a few months, but I kicked the dent in myself, and no longer have to look at it.

Unless it was one of those "dent removal fairies." It is still a little dented, but not nearly as bad.

Guess I didn't think of easily accessible photo evidence that I do have

http://www.cardomain.com/member_pages/show_image.pl?bg=6666FF&image=http://memimage.cardomain.net/member_images/8/web/2612000-2612999/2612901_32_full.jpg

There was 3 dents, one in the drivers door, the drivers rear door, and near the fuel filler. My stepdad mostly popped the one in the trunk area, rear pasenger had a sub facing it a long time, and the front door dent is still there.

Will attach a pic of the sub location in a minute and a better picture of the original dent If I still got one.

SQLThump on 08/28/2007 19:29:52
Pic of the sub location

You can only really see it in one small picture, and I can't enlarge it to post a link. This did happen, and I will find a way to fix the picture so you can see the dent. It was mostly back out by that time, but it is still slightly dented. It used to be as bad as the driver's door is now.

SQLThump on 08/28/2007 19:40:14
Can't get a link for it, but if you look at my Cardomain page, it's image number 65. I tried to make it enlargeable, but couldn't figure out how.

Believe it or not, your choice, but I am not going to kick a new dent in my already ghetto hoopty to prove a point. SMILE

Why you gota screw with me man???? I had to go through effort for that!!!

swez on 08/29/2007 09:47:46
No need to get on the defense Thump... we all get/give a good dose of hoots when things are a bit slow on the board. (Good for the morale too)

Relax, you have been well excepted here and that's what counts most. CLAP It builds character and also shows we value you as part of the CK team.

It's all good, man. I think I have been spending too much time on videogame forums, where everybody attacks each other over the stupidest of quibbles...........

BTW, not on the defense in the last point. It is just hard to tell that was typed in a silly tone of voice.....

swez on 08/29/2007 16:17:10
Hum, I don't get the idea of going to a place to learn and enjoy only to have a bunch of guys throwing flame bombs at each other for no good reason at all??? (Sounds a bit dis-fun-ctional w/o the "fun")

Sure am glad we don't allow that behavior here...

4. Mr. Brownstone
5. None of the above

Anyways lets take the opportunity to learn some physics of sound .....

its always beneficial to have some authenticated facts about sound waves,
sound pressure.
propagation of sound in various medium including air.
change in behavior of sound propagation in context to temperature.
effects of sound on human.
limitation of SPL.
resonance and resonating frequencies of different materials.
damping factor and absorption abilities of different materials.
sound reflections.
standing waves.
sound reinforcement.

If you do have the time and willingness to research these on the Internet and try to gather as much information as possible.

Probably then i would love to discuss

"""""its tough to sell that "dent story" to me....

for the rear view mirror i cud still be convinced...

and ""if your mirror ain't shaking, i guess u got some real good damping done on your install""

if you can decode this, you can build yourself a nice music system.

Victor....

I would not take pride as an installer if my cars rear view mirror, god forbid, falls off someday...."""""

........................................................................................................................

We can then come to a conclusion the reason it is not possible... and the reason probably that cud make it a 0.001% possibility...

THINK....

Victor...

I'm going to go with 5, because the first time I heard it quoted was by L.L. Cool J., in the movie "Deep Blue Sea" But I am not sure if he said that of mofo........

The point of going to the lesser videogame forums, is because somtiems you nees help in a game, and the best way to get it is a flesh and blood person, like here. Plus, sometimes it can be funny to watch the nerds quibble amongst themselves.

One of the main reasons I like here. You will get your answer, or at worst, a good freindly joke.

Victot, I think you lost me there. Fact is, the dent was there, the dent is now gone, and the most logical explanation is a bandpass sub port less than a yard away, bumping at it for months. I didn't fix it, and really wouldn't care too, but it is gone. Maybe I should have said that in the first place.

Victor on 08/30/2007 01:08:11
get this clear.... SOUND PRESSURE CANT HAVE DONE IT in this case.... if it did happen in the rarest of the rare cases then it would have been due to resonance and vibration of the sheet metal of the car...

incomplete information is always harmful. that is why i noted that long list of things to research on before coming up with logical explanations.

its ok.... As car audio enthusiasts we should be enthusiastic and open to learning....

Victor...

MrBrownstone on 09/14/2007 14:57:49
Concerning the 'mirror shaking' comment. I'd like to take issue with that.

Why does your mirror shake, Victor?
Why does it stop with damping?
Should it stop with damping?

Careful, you've entered into a Viper pit.

MrBrownstone on 09/14/2007 14:59:43
PS, I can believe that dent gettingpopped out if you don't have door panels OR, if it were in the rear quarter panel...but in the door? More likely, slamming the door could pop it out before the audio system.

Unless you did 156dB, then well, maybe.

Victor on 09/14/2007 17:49:48
Damn... men have learnt to keep Vipers in small glass boxes for research..... GRIN

swez on 09/14/2007 21:05:22
Too funny... LOL!!! So, the "Dent Fairy" stopped at your hood and gave ya a helping hand. (A.K.A. Toilet Plunger?) Does it matter all that much?

Leave the Viper's alone. They are not for the unskilled hands to handle and a minor mistake will often cause the handler to shake hands with Dr. Death. (Few exceptions)

Nuff said,
