OT: going under the knife

Those of you that know of me know that I have been struggling with a BUNCH of digestive problems for the better part of the last 5 yrs. The nausea and vomitting, along with the loss of appetite from the pain has left me now at less then a 140 lbs SAD when I started closer to the 185 mark. In the last 5 yrs I have had to give up so damn much stuff from my beloved beer pizza and wings MAD to my part time install job to getting out on my mountain bike only to take EVERY stinking medical test multiple times to have the dr's tell me that everything is normal, and then ask if I have been depressed or under stress lately.... I took another test wed, that I think I have taken at least 3 other times and they actually think they found something for a change! The found out that part of my intestine is turning inside out on itself(telescoping the dr described it as) and causing a narrowing which YATADA YATADA........ They set me up for an exploratory lapriscopic surgery to confirm the results when they will then open me up a little more to remove the bad sections. I met with the surgon yesterday and SHE(yes SHE!) went over things with me(including a rather thorough feeling of my lower abdomen which left me thinking of things that would not excite me(GRANDMA ON THE POT, GRANDMA ON THE POT!!)) Probably middle 30's, took care of herself AND no ring. Anyone know any good pick up lines for a surgon? tell ya what we will vote for the best one and we will write on my stomach for her to see when she starts! GRIN

I stopped by the shop on the way back and told the boss the news that I might be able to come back(as well as to ask him to get me some dynamant). Looked like a good time as they had a 360 convertable and I got to sit inside of and make race car sounds in my first skyline GTR. I miss the shop... pizza..... wings..... beer.... my bike....

Scott, best of luck to you, and I hope everything goes well for you. Surgery is no fun for anybody, and you will be in my prayers. I definitely know the pains of digestive system problems (IBS), and definitely hope your help improves.

I just don't get why Grandma on the pot was neccassary. If your paying a professional to do a job, you should try to enjoy it no matter what the paid job actually was. J/K

Seroiusly though, best of luck. Hope days full of chicken wing pizza, installing and beer find their way back to you soon.

We'll be praying for ya Scott. It's been a long haul for you and it would be great to hear they have indeed found and fixed the problems that have made you suffer for so long.

Depressed? That's certainly understandable! If you feel isolated and disconnected from things that used to bring enjoyment, that is enough to make most healthy folks feel depressed. Talking things out with a few caring friends can help. Medication can help if there are chemical imbalances in the mix. Avoid them when possible as some have side effects and weening off some meds are no fun either. (Withdrawal sysmtoms can be worse then where ya are now)

Best of luck on your surgery Mang... with the right calls on the Medical teams plan, you'll be up to speed and doing a lot better in a matter of 4-6 weeks.

thanks guys. THIS shtuff was the only thing that has been causing depression(that and the lack of anything good on daytime tv!) as prior to this I like to think that I was one of the happier people I knew. I have been sent out for more then one psyc eval and infact have another one later this month at mayo. The dr's always run a bunch of tests and when they would come back normal start to wonder if this was all in my head. I know the mind is a powerfull thing but if my head is causing me to spend this much time in the bathroom I am gonna start beating it aginst the wall to fix it.

I had started to accept that things were the way they were and that I was going to have to make some perminant changes in my lifestyle. I had actually talked to my boss at the shop to see if he wanted to buy my toolbox as I didn't think I would be able to work there much. I had also started to wonder if I should sell my mountain bike as I hate seeing it sittin there with dust on it. Now I am starting to dream that if this does fix it, I would be in the perfect situation to start doing some serious riding and get into really good, lean shape'"DON'T CALL IT A COMEBACK!, I'VE BEEN HERE FER YEARS!". I must be under 10% body fat now, I could pack on some solid muscle and be more effiecient then ever. Its hard not to get my hopes up even though I know I shouldn't....

Word from a guy you barely know...

Hope is an element of life that humans cannot live without. Reality is what it is. It's how we choose to accept, push back or deny the obvious, that determines the outcome. Hoplessness is liken to the advanced stages of cancer, unending ill health, poverty and lack of meaning in ones life.

Sometimes we can choose an alternate outcome. That takes courage, determination and a few positive-minded people in our inner circle to pull us through the dark tunnels in life.

Man to man, I know you have the courage and determination working for you on better days. However, what's that inner circle of friends look like? We all need a few good people to help us stand strong and straight when life gives us a few "sucker punches" that we never saw coming. (Or, maybe we did see them coming and could not get out of the way in time)

I greatly encourage you to fight this situation and dare to Dream Big. Also, reach out to others that can and are willing to lend support. (Not the surface niceties and false fluff) But rather, those who have been through some tough stuff and have fought their way back to well past the status quo. Trouble is, we have to go out there... to find them. (They typically don't come knocking at our doors, save for very extraordinary situations)

In this case, a "little birdie" is whispering a notion in my head. He is saying... "Call that Sorensen fellow and have a few long chats to bolster his spirits". Well, here's my e-mail addy. If you want to chat, send me an e-mail w/ your phone number and good times to call.

OK, I did what the "little birdie" told me to do. The rest is up to you my friend. The ball is now on your side of the court. Hit it back like ya mean it!!! SMILE
