Jeep Cherokee Stereo Replacement

Hi,

I have a 2006 Cherokee and want to replace the factory fitted Becker RB3 with a standard Pioneer unit. I was told by the supplier of the Pioneer that no adaptor lead was necessary, but of course one is. Unfortunately no one seems to list a lead so it may be necessary to hardwire the unit. Can anyone advise on the connections. Help much appreciated.

You may need one of these harness kits from Metra. Shop around as this adapter is not cheap.

The other option is as you say, hardwire the OEM harness and add your own ACC tap.

Thanks but should have said that I am in UK and my Cherokee is similar to a Liberty in US. I have looked at the US Jeep site and none of the available models seem to have the same units fitted as here in the UK. The RB3 is a single CD unit with Navigation built in.

Ah, that's a horse of a different color. Perhps there there is another route that can be looked at. What features are lacking on your Becker made system? If desiring outboard amps and perhaps additional EQ and AUX inputs for an I-=Pod or MP3 player, there are ways to adapt a Factory system for such upgrades.

Comments?

The idea was to get Bluetooth for phone handsfree and iPod connectivity (with full control) so I purchased a Pioneer DEH-P85BT on the understanding that no adaptor was necessary, so I already have the unit.......... Searching the Autoleads site I have found a lead with a similar plug for an earlier model (up to 05) but don't know if they have changed the units fitted since then. Also the "Infinity" speaker system fitted is an unknown factor.

Most US made vehicles with the "Infinity package" have outboard amps to power the speakers too. That means tapping into the amps with a special harness conversion kit. You may need som input from a local Pro that has done a few of these refits.

FYI: Becker is part of Harman Intl. They are a family of companies that make Crown, JBL, Infinity, Becker and Harman audio gear. Pretty good gear too.
