I am currently running two Alpine SWR-1242D's off a Alpine MRD-M1005 amp. System has been running great for about 2 years. This weekend the subs started sounded strange. The only way to describe it is they sound like they are snapping instead of booming. This does not happen all the time though. It started infrequently and now it is happening more than not. The amp gives no error message. Any suggestions?

sounds like maybe the speaker wire is slapping the woofer, or it is starting to go on ya.....

What do you think is going bad, the speaker wire, the amp, or the subs? I want to run diagnostics on whatever it is? I hate not having my bass running.

try lowering the gain a little bit they might be over excursing

This is one of those "process of elimination" type tests.
1. We test the subs on another known good amp
2. We test the amp on known good subs
One will be eliminated and the other will need a deeper look.
You mentioned you have a pair of 1242 DVC's... how are they wired to this amp? (Series/Parallel 4 ohms, Parallel/Parallel 1 0hm load)
