we are going to attempt this- Hard Core Drive By http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VTRHA2tVyTA we have at our disposal two DJ monitor speakers. they have variable +/- knobs on the back and 1/2 jack inputs (i think thats the right size- the bigger of the two "headphones" jacks) here is my ultimate question- how much power should they get, and- how do i wire these into a car situation? can i give them each X watts full range power straight off a car amp???? or should i try to mod a PA amp with a normal wall plug into an adapter into the car- or what? im looking to get as loud as possible, without blowing things up. and i want to do it right! pix comming soon if needed. -Drew oh yeah- and it has to be done in a week. Replies (11) newB on 08/11/2007 07:47:14 oh yeah- the actual speaker is a single vented 15 with what looks like a horn above for the highs. i assume it just gets a full signal and is internally crossed over -Drew swez on 08/11/2007 09:43:51 Need to know more about the speakers you are planning to use. Most DJ and Pro gear are 8 ohm systems and use 1/4" phone jacks or special speaker connects like "Speakon". http://www.partsexpress.com/webpage.cfm?webpage_id=3&CAT_ID=39&ObjectGroup_ID=127 1. Power needs: 150-300 Wrms @ 8 ohms typ. 2. The +/- knob is a tweeter/horn attenuator 3. Can use a strong car audio amp in bridge mode to speakers that are wired in parallel (4 ohm net load here and MONO channel output) 4. Full range audio feed to them as they often have internal crossovers. Are you sure you want to do this in a public place? * Some peeps that are up on this will get it and join in... (We're in) * Others may be amused and find it interesting... (What the hey?) * Other people will find it very annoying, offensive or consider it as disturbing the peace and call the police!!! (What's this... a street riot?) Help me out here... this type of music and behavior is/are really over the top. I don't get the message? 8~0 What is the message peeps are trying to express in this hard core rock? (Scratchin my head) Is is like this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hardcore_punk Swez newB on 08/11/2007 17:03:50 THANK YOU THANK YOU. ive posted this question on three forums and (again) swez nails it right on!!!!!! i'll have to wait for more speaker info- no camara and forget the brand on the front. i doubt i can find make/model on them. so if i run a balanced phone jack with (+)(-) wired accordingly to my car amp, giving it full range 150-300watts rms i should be good. now onto the "dancing" i really have never done it and am not very fond of it. the appeal it has to me is the reactions you described. instantanious chaos than as soon as it came its gone. plus its just very amusing on film- and will make an amazing story for later in life. it turns out we are no longer attempting the "hardcore" portion. we (we being others) decided that "hardcore drive by" would be copying the videos already made and on youtube. instead- we are going to portray our local area's music (bay rap) and do a "go hyphy/go dumb" drive by. in which case i'll be a camara man because all that is pretty much stupid and pointless- but amusing. -Drew swez on 08/11/2007 19:31:04 Check the back plate info on the boxes and if made by a major Mfg., it will state the specs you'll need to know. The fact it's a 15" woofer and a larger horn tweeter, power/SPL levels will likely be 150 Wrms or higher. It is possible you may find a 4 ohm woofer and 8 ohm horn here. That may change your wiring strategy a bit, but we can deal with it as you get the full details. (Typical is 2 wire cable here, unbalanced output) The tip on the jack is Pos and the shank is Neg. A 1/4" phone jack is common for portable DJ rigs. "Speakon" terminals are more for Pro rigs, but easy to make patch cables for is needed. As I watched a few YouTube videos on this punking prank, I really resonated with one couple and their pre-teen kid who walked away shaking their heads. The Dad did make a sly comment though... "I like your hair" was said to the Dad. But the Dad's look said it all... (Meaning... ya bunch of jerks scared my kid half to death) In last video clip, a woman went out screaming and ?cussing? them out and became very irrate and indignent about it all. The family took it as a well intended prank, but they were younger parents too. (Go figure huh) Am glad you guys are trying a milder approch and it could be pretty funny to see the camera pans and peeps reactions. In any event, don't be shocked if the cops show up and write some tickets. In your case, have your own car, stay out of view and have a gym bag to hide your camera as you stealth away like you had nothing to do with this. Swez PS Uhmmm, no drugs or alcohol here guys. If the cops come, they'll be looking in every nook and cranny for a reason to take more aggressive action. I would plan for the worst and hope for the best... a clean getaway, no visable license plates. (Plan escape routes carefully!!!) PSS You guys are NUTZ.... LOL Ash on 08/11/2007 20:19:47 What the heck is all that about?!! Drive-by dancing?? I must admit in my young & dumb days, we did much worse (no need for details). Though it may be harmless, I find the humor to be rather dry.... Perhaps if you guys were to do some odd music and a old corny dance like the achy breaky song & dance. You know something actually out of character to really bring the "shock and awe". Nothing to look like your about to start a riot. Just be carefull you guys don't run up on the wrong crowd. Some real nutso's that might pounce at any given moment. Remember, there's a lot of guns on the streets now! newB on 08/11/2007 21:17:33 comments are well noted. and we, nor anybody affiliated with this "prank" are into drugs/alcohol so no worries there. just good clean disturbing the peace. (jk jk) i think an unbalanced jack stripped to the (+)(-) wires and ran to an amp should be fine. the question now is finding an amp that will do 600rms full range at 4ohm. =/ if we do the "hyphy" it will be a much more playful/upbeat atmosphere as opposed to the scary image portrayed in the original video. my only real job in all this is setting up the ride- and filming. and of course LAUGHING at it as we splice the two videos into one nice stream. -Drew swez on 08/12/2007 06:43:01 This could actually turn out be a prank on the prankers... what the heck, nothing ventured, nothing gained. We all did some crazy stunts as kids. (I'll not mention mine either) It could turn out to be a real belly laugh if done well and not offensive to others. Just be on guard around crowds as Ash said... "some gun tottin' idiots" might be in the mix and we don't want to hear of that kind of incident later. In the meantime, think I'll hit the stream and get some more fishing time in. There's nothing quiet as peaceful as a night on the stream with the trusty ol flyrod and good flashlight when a big hatch comes in. The interesting part, in a heavy hatch, one has about 15 seconds to tie on a fresh fly. Once the light goes on, we get bombed by Ephoron's and it's like a "white out" of bugs that are everywhere. (Kinda like a blizzard, but with bugs instead of snow) Very stange thing to be covered in bugs and then come home with pouches full of dead bugs... Swez newB on 08/12/2007 18:27:10 ...... i miss fishing. -Drew lilschtive on 08/12/2007 19:42:37 So your basically going to blast your stereos while you "ghost ride the whip?" hahaha...im from the bay, yadidimean? where is this going to happen? reppin 408 newB on 08/13/2007 03:03:35 haha Not That Far. its happening at the Edwards Theatre in Fairfield Ca. Sat. the 18th the song is undecided as of yet- but APPARENTLY they're all "going dumb" or something. idk. i liked the hardcore a tiny bit better- i have to film if everybody gets stupid. im WAY to white for that -Drew newB on 08/13/2007 03:03:58 oh yeah- and i have to throw the 707 -Drew Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
