Puzzling Wiring Option

Parallel is when Each of your Speaker +'s go to the amplifier + and all of the Speaker -'s go to the Amplifier -. Yes?

(1a)Series is when Voice Coil 1's + goes to Voice Coil 2's -
Voice Coil 1's - goes to the amplifiers -
Voice Coil 2's + goes to amplifier +

This is a 1 ohm load on 4+4 DVCs, right?

When I got my subs originally, they were wired similarly to series except there was an extra wire that is similar to 1a. There was an extra wire going from Voice Coil 1's - to Voice coil 2's +.

So, total there were 4 different wires in connection;

From the amp :
Positive wire to Voice Coil 1's +
From the amp :
Negative to Voice Coil 2's -

From speaker
Wire ran from Voice Coil 1's - to voice coil 2's +
wire ran from Voice Coil 2's + to voice coil 1's negative.

It's quite hard to fathom all these wires; so if you'd like an image, here's one that I made,

This should answer all your questions...

The diagram you made looks simple enough, but it's snafu. The lower blue wire should not be there. This is a series wiring configuration that nets 8 ohms. (W/o the lower blue wire)

Wire it this way and you'll have a dead short and could damage your amp!

What are you attempting to do here Ender?

I must've not adequately remembered how the sub was wired before, and that's why the wiring stumped me. I'm going to be using Victor's link when wiring for a 1 ohm load.

I was just puzzled with how I "thought" this was wired, but I now relize that it couldn't have been wired this way before since the subs did run for several months.

Frankly, I am a bit confuse on the matter and want to help sort it out w/ ya. If it means a diagram or 2 in very simple terms, we can do that. (Like your earlier one above)

For now, here are 2 links from our DIY. I'll keep it simple and you fill in the gaps as needed OK?

1. How many subs are you planning to use? (2 yes?)
2. The target ohmic load you want is what? (1 ohm?)
3. The intended subs are 4+4 DVC's?

Here's a DVC in series:

Here's a DVC wired in parallel:

The thing that makes it look more complex than it is, that's due to the straight lines

Help me hely you,
Swez

PS I know you are a very bright guy and probably a higher IQ then most folks I know. Now, how do we get past the blockage of dealing with more than 2 wires? LOL ;-)

Do u have 2 subs?? both 4+4 DVC's???

if yes .. and if u want a total of 1 ohm load to the amplifier.. then this is the way you should be wiring them....

Yeah, you got it Victor.

For some reason Swez confirmed that I was going to use 2 DVC subs, but only linked wiring configurations for 1 DVC. :)

I will be using Vic's diagram as stated earlier where the Subs themselves are wired in parallel as well as the Voice Coils being Wired in Parallel yielding a 1 ohm load on 4+4 DVC's.

I just mistook the - to - as a + to - in my drawing. :x

Confusion cleared, Thanks guys. ^_^

Slow day huh? Same here.

Pick what you like... it's all good if it keeps one "alert". The world needs more "lerts".
