Ok, I just purchased a Infinity Kappa 12.1. It is rated 350 rms and 1400 peak. http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?sku_id=0665000FS11432121&catid=11052&logon=&langid=EN I have it in a 1.3cubic inch box. I am hooking it up to a Alpine MRP-F200. http://www.yourcarparts.co.uk/cgi-bin/trolleyed_public.cgi?action=showprod_MRPF200 What I am curious at is If I want to bridge this down to put out as close to the 350 rms as possible, would I do that in parallel or series? Im sort of new to this stuff and not sure about this bridging stuff Replies (8) mcinnesja on 08/6/2007 21:02:20 Yes I know a 4 channel is not the best amp, but Its all I can come up with at the moment kirchatndftbl on 08/6/2007 21:15:35 what amp do you have??? the links arent working swez on 08/6/2007 21:36:45 This one? http://cgi.ebay.com/ALPINE-MRP-F200-V-POWER-4-CH-300-WATT-AMP-75-x-4-BASS_W0QQitemZ300139278636QQihZ020QQcategoryZ39739QQtcZphotoQQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Hum, this is a very low power amp and a bit older too. As I read the specs, it's a 4 channel amp: 40 Wrms x 4 @ 4 ohms 50 Wrms x 4 @ 2 ohms 100 Wrms x 2 Bridged @ 4 ohms x 2 channels It's not really suitable to power DVC subs, but you can use it for low wattage subs. (2 subs, bridged amp, 4 ohm subs would be best) I would not suggest using this amp on a single DVC sub. You can use the front channels to power full range speakers and bridge the rear channels for power a 4 ohm sub if desired. Frankly, to get the most from this amp, 2 ohm, full range speakers would a good option. (50 Wrms x 2) Get a good 2 channel sub amp to power a Perfect 12.1 sub. That would be about 300-350 Wrms when bridged to a 4 ohm sub. Comments? Swez mcinnesja on 08/6/2007 21:56:00 I fixed the links, The sub itself is the SVC model, at 4ohm's I do plan on getting a better amp and eventually using the 4 channel to run the interiors. For now, Im sort of strapped for cash. The shop did state my amp when bridged would power the speakers. But when looking at the pics of the 2 versions of bridging, I get confused as to which I should be using swez on 08/6/2007 23:51:23 This amp is most usable to power full range speakers. (You seem to get that yes?) It would be best if using 2 ohm speakers for the front and rear channels to get the most power from this amp. (Realistically, 60-65 Wrms x 4 @ 2 ohms is the best you can expect. As for this sub, yes... a 4 ohm SVC. (It too is an older model) To get the most bang for your buck here, a 2 channel amp bridged MONO makes the most sense. The amp choice here, would be 300-400 Wrms when bridged. This is a good sub, just out dated is all. Bridging is a simple task when we know the method recommended by the amp maker. If you find an amp that you wish to use for this sub, run it by the forum and we can assist you. Be realistic about your intentions. With a solid plan of attack, you're OK now. Don't make it harder then needed. We can help you get the most from said gear, if we know your intent. Feel free to ask many questions. That's what we are here for. Swez mcinnesja on 08/7/2007 21:18:22 I am a bit tight on cash, but if the amp is not suitable to run this sub, What would be a good amp to do this? My system plans are to stay with the one 12 inch sub, and my exsicting HU which is a Pioneer(deh-p6700mp). I plan on upgrading my door and rear deck speakers and I guess running them off my Alpine eventualy (probaly in a month or 2). I am trying to build a good sounding system, with decent bass. Not after any SPL awards or anything. kirchatndftbl on 08/7/2007 22:13:05 http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_6555_Hifonics+Titan+TXi+5006.html ($125) http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_8570_Kenwood+KAC-8103D.html ($125) http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_9551_Hifonics+TXi1008D.html ($200) swez on 08/8/2007 02:36:32 The Kenwood amp makes a lot of sense here. This will allow you to get good power to that Infinity 12.1 sub.
