I have recently got my first car, a W reg Citroen Saxo. It comes with the original stereo system included, which is rather poor, and I'm looking to give it a bit of an upgrade.
HOWEVER! I have NOOOO idea about car audio. What products are best for quality and volume? Do I need new speakers? Do I need a new system all together? What about a sub-woofer?
You are really dealing with a total idiot here and any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated!

What brands of gear are available in your part of the world? Knowing that, we can give some helpful ideas. Do you have a budget issue to consider? That helps so we don't blow your budget with high end gear that's out of your budget.
Do you know what sizes of speakers are used in this vehicle? Where are the stock locations?

Exactly what is missing in the sound now that you would like to have or improve?
Upgrades can be inexpensive if only the areas of improvement are directly targeted. It is very important to keep it simple if possible to attain an effective system at a fairly low cost.

Hello guys, thanks for the response. First off as I'll likely be doing most of my shopping on the internet I dont think location is too important.
At the moment if I turn up the music it gets rather distorted - even when its not particularly loud. I'm sure it's fairly cheap and simple to get clarity at higher volumes and my budget will stretch to cover this!
Unfortunately I've not been able to find out the size of the speakers, but when I do, I'll let you know.

Chances are good that the complaint here is due to a very low powered HU. (Radio/player) Stock factory HU's are mostly in that category. Low budget aftermarket HU's can do the same things. Knowing more about your present setup will help.
