Hello! This is my first time here. I have an 03' Chevy Silverado 2500HD crew cab and want to put a couple subs in the back. I have a couple JL 10" but they are too tall to fit under or behind the back seat. I saw on Ebay some "shallow mount" subs and wondered how they compared to regular subs. Do you have to go more watts to acheive the same as regular subs or is there a difference? I'd appreciate any opinions if anyone has any experience with them. Thanks! D. More of them are hitting the market now and can do a pretty good job in trucks like yours. http://www.proboxrocks.com/products/enclosures/unloaded/chevy/99X210DF/index.shtml http://www.proboxrocks.com/products/enclosures/loaded/chevy/CX110L/index.shtml However, if you really want some quality bass in this truck, look at Probox offerings. They make custom sub enclosures that sound great and fitment is excellent too. No, they are not cheap either. However, the quality I have seen with this vendor is worth the investment. FYI: Installed a single 10" ported box in a Ford F-150 crew cab. It was powered by a JL 500/1 amp and sounded excellent!!! This was an up-firing sub design and sounded very good with the rear seat down and even better with the seat up. It was a very stealty install as well when we finished. The only items seen were the sub box when the rear seat was up and the Nakamichi HU in the dash. He's had it about a year now and tells me the bass sounds even stronger now than when installed initially. (Sub break in time was about 5 days) If anything, this box design will give some ideas on what is possible in your truck. Swez bigdalexander on 07/26/2007 15:22:31 Thanks Swez! I may have to try them! MrBrownstone on 07/26/2007 18:33:44 It's the whether it's shallow mount or not, it's all about excursion. Subs do 1 thing...move air. 2 woofers with the same excursion with the same Qparameters will perform similar. Many of previously 'shallow mount' woofers were also very limited excursion, hence they didn't provide a lot of output. Ash on 07/29/2007 07:54:05 Here's another factor in shallow subs to be considered that I believe has been posted before. What good is a shallow sub if it requires a normal size enclosure? To have the full benefit, obviously it should likewise be able to attain low Q's (.6 to .8) in a small box (micro enclosure). In my opinion, that is when it really serves it's purpose. Ported may be taken into consideration as long as the extended vent length can be worked out (external prehaps). Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
