my 78 ford with a 460 engine has a 63 amp alternator. I have a 1000 watt RMS running two 10" subs and a smaller 600 watt Peak running 2 5x7's this is draining my battery even while driving. what size alternator should i go up to? You'll need a stronger ALT for this package. These amps are not real heavy power monsters until you crank up the bass. Something on the order of ~150A's would be sufficient here. (That should not be too hard to find if you know the engine specs) A 63A ALT is fine for running the basics in your ride, but not enough to thump & bump that sub amp hard for long. (Discharging the battery right?) Also, when you do find a stronger ALT, look at the power line from the ALT to BAT and BAT to ground. If these are less than #4 gage wires, they need to be upgraded too. Swez Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
