I got bored

I have still been feeling under the weather with my usual stomach crap, but in the time I have not felt bad I have made some progress on the mustang.

After mom broke what I had done on the wicked one box and after realizing that it would take up the intire trunk I scrapped it. I also lost all desire to build it since I didn't have an amp to power it if I did finish it. A buddy dropped off a 4 channel alpine that he had no use for and I decided that I wanted something small and as out of the way as I could with the existing 4 - 8's I had(from teal) so I went sealed. I basically copied the factory enclosure and added a little to it to get the required airspace. I also used threaded wood inserts for all the speaker mouning screws (with security screws) and threaded inserts for the bolts that the box mounts to. This will allow me to remove or replace them as often as I want and not have to worry about the holes wearing out.

I made Brackets out of 1 inch wide steel flatstock and was able to use existing holes behind the rear seat and under the rear deck so that I didn't have to make any holes to hang it. I finished the box wed night and took it for a drive with out any sound to see if it made any rattles and it didn't. I can literally push the car with the box and it does not move.... The coolest part is that it can be easily removed with 4 wing nuts for when I take it to the track again.

While digging around my closet for the misc pieces I needed to do the amp install I found the Dakota Digital current meter that I forgot I had. I thought maybe I could find a place for it and I did. I was actually able to scrounge everything I needed for the amp install from the fuse holder to some really nice rca's except some 4 awg. So with the subs and amp being a gift, I am into it for the wire and box materials for a total of less then $80.

Now I realize my front speakers SUCK!!! I did a little bit of shopping around and might throw some 6.5 in this weekend or next if I get tired of them and forget I am broke.....

hey that looks nifty....i didnt even know mustangs had a factory box....does it bang?

It is not much as there are 2 5 x 7 woofers in an abs enclosure.

Idunno yet. It is really loud(too much) on some songs and at some volumes and other times I thought my amp shut down. It bangs like heck on techno and on rap and very little on red hot chili peppers for example.

I am on a mission now to replace the front speakers as I think they are really dragging the subs down. The front factory 3.5's are all that plays now since I pulled the factory amp. IT also seems that the volume level of the subs is not the same as the decks volume. the bass comes on strong and hard at low volume and then the mids catch up when you crank it a little but start to distort too soon. I am pretty sure that putting a good speaker up front will fix this so I will be out lookin tomorrow. I put some other audio stuff on craigs list as my speaker fund.

That looks great ttocs. Love the use of Alpine and MBQ gear. Two of my favorites.

What all are you selling?

the stock mach460 system(3 amps, enclosure and front speakers.

I also have a few of the polk audio db104 subs
a jl 15w0 - 8
a set of mustang headlights

Thinking about it last night I will probably look in the $150 - 200 range for some front speakers and leave the back empty for now.

I got the dakota digital meter on ebay when I was just surfing around. I think I ended up paying less then $50 shipped.
