Does anyone know what the ampacity of 1/8" x 1" solid copper is? Replies (2) trunkisloud on 07/20/2007 00:54:20 http://www.solenergy.org/pdf/PV201/pv201chap9.pdf. the link shows the ampacity of copper wire...........it gives tables and formulas wiring diagrams and things of that such..thing is it goes by awg so you need to know what size wire youre dealin with. swez on 07/21/2007 19:35:32 Good question and I don't know the answer either. However, just looking at the general text, I am asking another question in concert with yours... "What is the current carrying ability of a slug of pure copper that is 0.125" dia and 1.0" long?" (That about #8 gage solid wire) First impressions... pretty high current can flow in a crossection of pure Cu of these dimensions. When the current flow is high enough, Cu will eventually melt like a fusable link. (1981.4 °F/1083.0 °C) Also, as Cu heats up, its resistivity will also go up with temperature. This may be of little to some help: http://www.epanorama.net/documents/wiring/wire_resistance.html Swez Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
