so i just bought this new amp kit and it came with this fuse can anyone tell me what it does and what i connect it to? http://www.crutchfield.com/S-CNF7TRZfL4m/cgi-bin/prodview.asp?i=142P8FHI Replies (2) big_bass_chase on 07/16/2007 19:57:12 What you have there is an "In line fuse" as I like to call them...These are used to keep your amp from getting shorted. If your power wire comes off of your amp, and grounds itself on something in your trunk, the fuse will blow and keep your power wire from overheating and possibly catching on fire..Or if the power wire get chaffed from contantly rubbing on somthing, it will also blow and save your wire, and amp. You should install this within a foot of the battery or so... swez on 07/17/2007 09:58:29 Correct!!! That fuse is used to protect your car electricals. It's the main power feed line fuse. If it shorts to a body/chassis ground, the fuse will blow and protect your ALT/BAT and wiring. Also, if the amp malfunctions, the fuse will also blow to protect the rest of your wires. Mount fuse as close to the battery + terminal as possible. It looks like this when wired properly: (First picture) http://www.bcae1.com/fuses.htm Swez Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
