I have a really nice Alpine HU that i've been using for a while already but the more time i spend driving at night and the older i get the more the harsh light from the HU bothers my eyes. I believe that there is a dimmer wire that comes out of my HU and i have no idea what is in the cars wiring harness (those nifty adapters make it so you don't have to waste any time searching and metering wires), but the gauge cluster lighting dimmer doesn't affect the HU. what i would like to know is if i there is any way to dim my HU, or if that is not possible are there any HUs on the market now that would have a dimmer that would allow me to turn off all the lights, while it still plays music. Thanks VW Replies (4) MrBrownstone on 07/6/2007 18:11:39 there's on in the MENU of alpine players. do you still have your owners manual? ShootuhMcBustaCap on 07/7/2007 12:02:18 What model # is your Alpine deck there man? I have a CDA 9807, which has no dimmer, but has a "blackout" feature which turns off most of the display to make more power for the RCA outputs. You could always use it for a different purpose........ Try holding down your mute button for a few seconds and see if your display turns off. vwdriver on 07/9/2007 19:31:19 Hey thanks for the responses guys, unfortunately I never got the owners manual as I bought it refurbished. Only paying a third of the retail cost made me figure a owners manual isn't the biggest deal. I tried to hold the mute button down to see if it would turn off the display but that didn't work, there is a display button on it but it just changed the little visualization on the side of the screen. My unit is the Alpine CDA 7893 its about 4 years old I think so I haven't had a lot of luck finding info on it. Thanks for the help. VW SQLThump on 07/10/2007 05:08:02 Thats unfortunate man. My H/U is of a similar vintage, but has the feature. Wish I could help you out man. P.S. Beware the refurbished audio gear. What fails once is usually at better odds to fail again than something that never did in the first place. Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
