Hey guys I live in Colorado (Denver area) and am looking at doing a pretty custom job of install with my subs and amps. I was wondering if anyone knew of a place, or knew of some website or otherwise that I could find someone who does know of somewhere that would be capable of this without all the $$$! I went to Car Toys and they wanted about $2000 JUST for the install so I'm looking to limit the cost on that a little bit. ANY AND ALL HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED!!! -Mike- Replies (5) DINGALING on 08/21/2003 22:43:27 three words-- do it yourself. it is much more rewarding to do it yourself. plus you get to learn something. and it a lot less expensive. all these pluses... DIY -DINGALING Tray on 08/22/2003 11:34:15 Your garage! I too live in CO, and have yet to see any shops that can do a good install, that will not charge you an arm and a leg. The very few qualified people work for big $$$, and you'll pay to get their time. As Ding said, DIY is your best bet. We should be able to help you figure out what you want to do, and you'll be 100% happier with an job well done, that you can be proud of. What is it that you are trying to do anyway? Swez on 08/22/2003 18:41:57 Agreed... DIY is so much more rewarding as you map out a plan, watch it take shape, then sit back and laugh and say... "Man, I saved my self a month's income by doing this on my own. Besides, you'll get a real good handle on how things work and where things are after the install is complete. If you tke it to a shop and you want to do mods later, have to search around for where all the wires are etc. You can get lots of help from this site as most of us are DIY's too. Swez mJonesie on 08/25/2003 15:06:56 Well thing is guys I've never been much of a "do-it-yourselfer." I just know, knowing me, that there is NO WAY I can do this all by my lonesome. I'm just not inclined that way. Let me give you a quick idea of what I was thinking of (for time being anyway): Take out or fold out the rear seat. Angle an amp on each side of the rear area along with a sub on each side kitty corner from the amp. Put the Dodge Ram logo in the middle in etched glass and have neon lighting light up this and the plexiglass over the amps. Enclose all of this in a black vinyl finish. If I decided to up it to 3 or 4 subs and another amp it would be a smiliar layout, just a little bit more involved. So that's kinda the jist of what I'm looking at, at least that's the best I've come up with so far. So as you can see a newbie like me could NEVER do this without the help of a certified tech. So that's where I'm at. I'm looking for a professional quality work without the high end retail tag attached. I'm not looking for a cheap job, just somewhere more reasonable then $2000. Thanks guys! -Mike- carfreak on 08/25/2003 20:05:23 Well you are not going to get that for very much cheaper than 2000 . Was that including the subs and amps glass...ect If so that may not be a bad price. If you still have to buy the stuff and thats labor tell them to get bent. Find someone who knows fiberglass and then ask them to help ya figure it out.. tell them you will do the work just ask them to show you how its done and to watch over you. Once you do one you will do ok with the rest. Just have a plan and a lay out for it . Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
