Neighbor friend Needs a little help diagnosing radio problem.

Ford factory audiophile 6 disc CD Changer.

Radio started spontaneously going into "seek" mode with every little bump. Happened for about 10 minutes, then stopped.

2 days ago, same thing.

Today, does it non-stop. Decided to listen to CD's in 6-changer, and it too was seeking through the cd's non-stop and would not play. However, the single CD player works fine.

Anyone ever had this problem? If so, what is the source and/or solution.

If no easy fix, how hard is it to find a replacement that will work with the 6 cd changer and what can I expect to pay on the low end?

Thanks.

PS...Swez MY system is doing just fine. It's mean!! Vibrates my nose hairs baby!! LOL

When you get a bit older like me it will also vibrate you ear hairs...

Ba-hahaha....I'm 49 and have plenty o' ear hairs. Matter of fact, they are leaving the top my head in droves, apparently looking for a new home.

Hehe... have noted the same things as I get older... hair around the ears and inside seem to multiply/grow faster than that on the cranial dome.

About your neighbors' scenario, this seems to indicate a logic circuit malfunction in the factory HU. It could be as simple as a loose harness connection or more complex as internal HU circuits are activating on their own. I'd look for the simple first, but anticipate the latter. (Repair or replace the factory HU)

If this guy is adventerous, consider removing the HU, take off the covers and give it a good cleaning with IPA, Rubbing Alcohol) and a toothbrush. Most boards in these HU's use a no-clean soldering flux processes and over time, they collect moisture and begin to act up. A good cleaning may fix this one. If not, replace the HU.

PS Glad to hear your system is still pumping along just fine. That was one of the best/complex installs I have been in on to date and pleased with how it turned out.

Thanks Swez. I think we can give it a go with a good cleaning first. Wadda we have to loose, right?

Complex? Yeah that's a good word for it alright. I'm just glad it was a truck. I couldn't imagine being bent over all that time doing a car that way. I'd still be in traction. LOL.

I've recently inspected the noise dampening peel and seal and have concluded it has now become a permanent fixture. Good God that stuff is sticky. LMAO.

What was that stuff you bought and where did you get it? (Sound deadener)

I liked the way it went on and since you and Mike did such a good job of prep work cleaning, that's gotta be a good reason for the good stick after all this time. Every time I grab that can of Denatured Alcohol for cleaning stuff, I think of Blue Oval, Mikey and this install... hehe

Yeah, installing in this truck was a blessing. I'd be in traction too if this were a car install of this magnitude. Gotta love how the rear seat back rest came off and then the grunts to put it all back together again. (Remember the side panels after the rear speakers were installed too?)
The right front door panel was a tickler too. (No wiggle room there)

That was especially fun in the dark huh? But, that night was a lot of good chats with your sidekick and buddy.

As I recall, you got pretty quiet after 2 beers and Mikey and I got into some pretty deep chat material too. It was good to have you guys came up for a few days and the results were superb. (Ahhh, the good ol days huh?) SMILE Been doing any fishing of late?

Swez
