ok so i just installed my 760 pioneer amp to 2 subs i dont know how many watts the two subs have for a minute it was working fine and then all of the sudden the subs stop working and then i turn it down and they work a little bit again. also when they were working if i turned it up more then 30vol the subs would start working so i need help let me know if you have had this problem before Replies (16) kirchatndftbl on 07/2/2007 19:14:51 whats the model number of the subs??? how are they wired???? correct ohmic load??? snappy on 07/2/2007 19:33:05 their 2 12' it doesnt say how much watts they have or model number they are wired professionally. can it be the deck that it cant support much? kirchatndftbl on 07/2/2007 21:03:51 do you know the brand of subs at all?? cplkittle on 07/3/2007 09:00:36 It sounds like the ohm load is too low. The amplifier will play for a bit, but will cut off, especially when you turn it up. It would really help to know the brand and model number of the subs. If you don't know, take one out and take a picture of it. Either a lot of information, or one key piece of information is needed to help diagnose the problem. Right now, all we can do is guess. swez on 07/3/2007 12:46:09 Tough to diagnose w/o sub and amp info as Kit mentioned. Can you remove one sub and have a close look at the make, model # stamped on the magnet structure? Are these Single or Dual Coil subs? Also, knowing the amp make/model # would be a big help. Is it a 2 channel stereo amp or a Class D MONO amp? Swez snappy on 07/4/2007 02:24:19 ok thanks for helping out i got a 760 pioneer watt 2 channel and im guessing the subs are bad because the brand is not known their flea market kind and the dont got a model # on the magnet structure also yesturday i installed a 8' sub and it works fine with it but not as much bass as i want. 1 more question if i have this 760watt amp wat size and watts can i get subbs for my amp? swez on 07/4/2007 08:57:04 What is the fuse value in the amp you are using here Snappy? Knowing that, we can help determine a good sub to match your amp. Better still, knowing the exact model # of this Pioneer amp would be most helpful. Does it look like any of these amps? http://www.cardomain.com/item/PIOGM5100T http://www.crutchfield.com/S-CN1lGqsg59x/cgi-bin/prodview.asp?i=130GM5300T http://www.cardomain.com/item/PIOGMX962 Swez COFFEE snappy on 07/4/2007 15:18:47 this is the amp i have http://www.bass-enterprises.com/browseproducts/Pioneer-GM-X862.HTML swez on 07/4/2007 17:02:17 Interesting... Pioneer has 4 amps with similar specs, but in slightly differing packages. Here, you'll want to bridge the amp to MONO and use a 4 ohm sub load for best results. A single 4 ohm 12" sub with a rating of ~300 Wrms will be good and not expensive either. So will a DVC type, 2+2 sub, both coils in series = 4 ohms. Do you have a budget # in mind for the sub and any enclosure restrictions we should be aware of? Swez snappy on 07/4/2007 17:11:31 im a rookie so your suggesting to upgrade my amp? and also can you give me links to some good 12" subs and i have a budget of like below 350 for only subs i have a good deck already swez on 07/4/2007 19:27:03 Actually, this amp should do a good job with bass and not be a huge drain on your electricals either. (Depending on the ALT/BAT ratings in the vehicle you're working with) A solid 300 Wrms is nothing to sneeze at, but it won't rock the block either. As for subs to consider here, a single 12" would be fine and will produce good bass too with this amp. If you are driving this Falcon, that was a smaller car in its day and cheap transportation. Brands like Polk, Infinity, Alpine, Kenwood and a few others should easily fit your budget, including a box. Here's a short list of subs to consider. You can buy them cheaper off other sites, but I like Crutchfield's site for the details and manuals that are often listed: 1. http://www.crutchfield.com/S-xfGyxTfkH3d/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=520&I=500SWS1223 2. http://www.crutchfield.com/S-xfGyxTfkH3d/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=520&I=1081250W 3. http://www.crutchfield.com/S-xfGyxTfkH3d/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=520&I=113XW12DVC 4. http://www.crutchfield.com/S-xfGyxTfkH3d/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=520&I=107DB124 OK, there's a good set of 4 subs that will handle this amp and match up well in compact enclosures, either sealed or ported. What say you? Swez PS Good choices here would be Polk, Infinity or Kenwood for power, price and performance. I like Alpine, but this series is not a familiar one to me and I cannot give you a good read on that one. snappy on 07/4/2007 19:49:22 ok thans Swez you have been a really BIG help i got one last question do you think if i get a 12" 1600watt Xplore sub with Q Logic box good with the amp i have? and yea my 1960 ford falcon is nice and small great fuel efficient swez on 07/4/2007 22:41:21 If you mean one of these newer Sony subs, why not. Just be sure to follow the enclosure space recommendations: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-ZCOGBubGA3W/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=520&tab=detailed_info&i=158XSL124#Tab This Q-Logic box is a very good match to that Sony sub: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-ZCOGBubGA3W/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=178650&I=044H1012SS&search=Q%2DLogic Swez snappy on 07/4/2007 23:24:42 0oh ok thanks so my 760 amp can power that 1600watt sub? thanks for all this help its a big help kirchatndftbl on 07/5/2007 01:26:02 when talking about watts you want to go by the specs of the amp and subs RMS ratings swez n everyone else can explain it better and in more detail swez on 07/5/2007 10:38:50 That Sony sub is able to handle the RMS, (Continous) power your amp puts out. (about 350 Wrms) Just about any speaker or sub can take short bursts of power that are 2-4 times the RMS rating. That's not what we look at though... (Mfg's Hype) We look at the "Continous" or RMS power ratings as these are what matters most. Swez Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
