Multiple amps for each channel?

What are the pro's & con's of using multiple amps for each channel? Here's what I would like to do. I have 2 boxes with 2 Sony speakers in each box (90w rms per box, 3ohm per box). I want to add 2 more boxes with 4 speakers per box (200w rms per box, 4ohms per box). If I use 1 amp for each box, will I run into any problems? If I use a Y cable from each front channel on the H/U (right & left, the rear channels are being used for subs)), will that supply enough signal voltage to the amps? I can also use speaker level inputs. What I'll end up with is a total of 6 amps, 4 amps for the full range speakers, 2 amps for the subs.

The answer in most cases would be yes... this can be done if there is enough "signal power" to feed each amp used from the source.

Y cables provide the same voltage, but the the amp(s) impedance dictates the actual power the amp will see and how much is actually available to each amp used.

A preamp Line Driver would help a lot too. The LD boost incoming audio signals with a preamp and then offers more power to each amp that is used.
