shallow sub setup

hello every body well on my recent trip to the city i went to go and look at an audio express (expensive ) to check out (droll a bit )on some of the new stuff out there.
well when i was walking around i saw an pioneer shallow woffer in a nice small box and said hey that would fit in my truck.
well i went and asked how much $450 for one 10 and the box and grill. wow thats way to expensive they wanted 250 a woffer and 200 for the box.
so i decided to look into making a setup for my truck my self.

now i have thought about doing this before but with the small space i figured it wasent worth it not to mention i dint drive my truck that much (big v8 eats much gas) well my car has been broken so this is my new daily driver

1996 Ford f-250 regular cab with bench seat i aslo have the seat all the way back since its a little hard to fit 6 feet in this small space.
already installed is a pioneer deh p4400 and sony 6.5 3way front cheapes from walmart and the 6x8 in the rear are turned down since they came with the truck and arent all that great.

i was helping a guy install a new amp he bought and he gave me the old amp it had stoped working and wasent that good when it was any way. well when i was looking it over i noticed that the fuse was blown i replaced it and put it in my car it has worked fine since. its a lightning audio b250.1
i also have an Audiobahn a8000T that works fine at 4 ohms but turns off at 2 ohms
also a new kenwood kac-9152d

so these are the posibilities of amps for my truck now the space im not sure exactly how high to measure but at the botom i have about 8 in and at a higth of 11 in i have about 5 1/2 in of space between the seat and back of cab so what do you all sujest

The Kenwood, Pioneer and RF Punch 3 are all viable options and the Sony is too. All of these have decent power and will work well in a sealed box w/ ~0.5 - 0.6 ft^3 per sub. The Kicker's need too large a box to do well in a tight space.

The amp best suited for these would be the Kenwood amp mentioned.

well after i looked at the kenwood it pushes 500rms@4ohms and 900 rms @ 2or1 ohms isnt this a litle to strong for these

would this box work for these or would i be beter off building one my self

The RF Punch 3 sub is the most robust of the ones listed. It is also the best fit for the sub boxes noted @ e-bay. It is also the least efficient but probably the most honestly rated too.

FYI: Many speaker/sub makers rate efficiency at frequencies well above normal sub operating ranges. It's not uncommon to rate a sub between 500 - 1000 Hz and get high eff #'s. But subs operate well below 200 Hz and most are not very efficient below 100 Hz. That's why ported or BP enclosures are used. These are more efficient at the tuning frequency and roll off above and below that mark.

As for your Kenwood amp pairing to a set of Punch 3's, you can easily adjust the amp gains to reduce power to the correct power range for any of these subs noted. A voltage output of 34.6 VAC = 600 watts RMS to a 2 ohm load. With a good DMM, you can easily hit that target.

Finally, all these subs can take short-term wattage spikes that are 3-4x the RMS rating. Only an idiot that likes destroying subs, will run a sub that hard on a contious basis. (Or a test engineer that wants to see how much power a speaker can take before it craps out) COFFEE

My previous neighbor had a Ranger PU and added a compact, sealed 12" Kenwood sub and a 400 Wrms amp for bass, behind the bench seat.

It sounded strong enough to piss me off enough one night to get out of bed and raise holy hell with him and his Mom about their lack of good judgement and common sense. I was just inches short of going out to the garage, grabbing a 4lb maul hammer and beat that sub into the ground.

Yep... I was that hot after months of telling this kid to dial back the bass when he pulled up into his driveway. So much for a the mild-mannered Swez that come here to serve others on a daily basis huh? Just goes to prove that noise is aggitating when one is trying to get some sleep. I don't take kindly to thoughtless idiots who don't harness the power they have at hand. In short, use ones gear wisely and all is well with the world. Thank God they moved and now things are much better w/ the new neighbors. (End rant)

A single strong 2-4 ohm sub that works well in a compact box can do a lot of dB's in a truck cabin install. You have the amp for it. Some careful measuring for the wedge box is a good idea and if you need a shallow mount sub, you have a few very good options now.
