After months of toruble free operatoin, my Boston sub has broken its connection to the voice coil again. This time, it doesn't look like I can just resolder to the leads under the dust cap. How are VC's constructed? Is the tinsel lead actually part of it, or just soldered in? I want to stick the speaker wire directly up to the VC, but don't want to screw anything up. I am sure I can find some way to make it work otherwise, but want to do this as a longer term solution to this temporary solution sub. P.S. I would love to replace this sub, but can't afford to, hence the numerous repairs. However, if the VC wire breaks, we can sometimes remove the dust cap, release a turn of VC wire and try to resolder it again. (This is often a very delicate process) VC wires are often epoxied to the the coil former and the wire is also coated with a very thin insulation layer. To solder the new connection, we have to remove the insulation on the VC wire to make it solderable again. (About 1 inch is needed to work properly) Good luck, Swez ShootuhMcBustaCap on 06/21/2007 11:08:11 It wasn't as bad as I thought. Turns out that I am blind, and the lead severed on the back side of the sub, so I pulled off the cap, pulled a lot of wire through, and soldered the hell out of it. I will see how well it works when I put the dust cap back on today. Any advice for a good adhesive for the dustcap? I have been using Krazy Glue, and this time it was just stupid hard to pull off. I would like to try something new. Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
