My new CD player keeps blowing fuses in my old car

Up front, I know nothing about car audio. I just had Best Buy install a new Pioneer CD player in my 1991 Geo Prism, along with 4 inexpensive speakers, and now it blows fuses after about 2-3 days of operation. The car radio fuse is 15 amp. Should I just increase the amperage of the fuse? Or will that fry my electrical system?

15 sounds a little low... There are two pwr wires that operate the radio. One is switched(generally red) meaning it has +12v when the key is on, and the other is +12v constant pwr wire. The switched wire should be no greater then 15 amps, the constant could be as high as 25 or so...

What kind of speakers do you have hooked up, and welcome to the forum...

Thanks for your response! The speakers are Polk Audio GXR4 4"speakers, 2 front, 2 rear. It says on the box that their peak powr handling is 88 watts, continual power handling is 35 watts max, and nominal impedance is 4 ohms. (All of that is Greek to me). The CD player is a Pioneer DEH-1500, which is labeled a "high power CD player with FM/AM tuner." I don't see any details in the instructions about the power draw of the unit.

As ttocks mentioned, thre are 2 power feeds into this HU (deck) and one is switched, other is constant.

This HU is rated at 50 x 4 watts peak per channel or ~25 watts (RMS/ch).

If you had it installed and paind for it, I'd take it back and let them fix it right this time.

Also, there should have been owner's and install manuals that came with the unit. If you read them, you will learn what the proper fusing of the system should be. Seems to me, 15A fuse is a bit light for this HU... but the install manual will tell you the specifics.

If you did not get the manuals, you can get them off the Pioneer website after you register:
