Alpine CD changer help

hey guys.

I've got an Alpine CHAS-634 6-Disc CD Changer and i've left my CDs in it when i removed it (i know, stupid thing to do). I have no way of connecting it back up to the head unit, so was wondering if there was any way to get them out.

I've taken the casing of the changer, and could see no way of removing the cartridges.

Is there any way that i can get them out? I have a Kenwood head unit in now, so is there any way i can get an adaptor to connect the CD changer to that in order to get the CD's out.

Any help is much appreciated.

Hum, we are not ignoring your call for help, but it seems like noone knows enough about compatibility issues here to help you out.

I tried to look up that model on the Alpine USA site and it is not listed. It also looks like this may be a UK market item only. Do you have the Install/Users manual for this changer? If yes, read it through and see if there's a section in the troubleshooting part of the manual that tells how to remove CD's when the changer is not connected to a HU.

Best I can do for ya,

Hey, look what I found: Open the .pdf file and click on the Loading CD section. It shows an external eject button to remove the cassette from the main housing.

http://akamaipix.crutchfield.com/Manuals/500/500CHAS634.PDF

It looks like the cassette holder has an external eject button on the front panel. Question is, will it work w/o power connections?

This unit has 2 connection options, Ai-Net and Mini-buss but that is w/ Alpine HU's only. If you don't have any Alpine HU's handy, you may need to go to a shop and ask them to hook it up and then eject the cassette to empty it or as a buddy who has a similar system if this is not a manual eject system. (Am betting it can be done w/o power though) Try it and see.

PS I dunno how I managed to find this detail... but I'll take all the good luck available and pass it on to you. Cheers!!! Welcome to CK...

cheers for the help. On that PDF file, if you mean the eject button then it needs to have power in order to operate. Think im going to have to wait for a friend with an alpine head unit to remove his and get him to get the magazine out. Cheers for the help.

Mattrock, do you have the Alpine wiring harness. If you have the plug in connector that goes in the back of the unit, all you need to do is hook up the battery + and a ground. It suould eject the cassette.

If you dont have the harness, call Crutchfield and ask if they will email a picture of the female socket in the back of the unit with the pins identified, if not that then the male plug with pins ID'd. You can then use 2 jumper wires w/alligator clips to the proper pins to battery+ and neg. Use care by tating around the connector clips so they dont touch other adjoining pins

I operated the eject function on a Ford factory head unit this way.

Good Luck

I think this fellow is located in the UK. Do you still have the harness that came with the HU as the controller? If you do it may be possible to tap the main power lines with a battery and get them out that way.
