Though the title presents a coworker of mine as such, I really do not believe him to be, (a fool). Yet if you remember the old adage, he surely represents it. Being into this mobile audio thing, you run into all sorts of people when talking about it. Those who lie, are out to outdo the next one, know everything and nothing at all, are true to the hobby, have the passion to learn, etc. Well this one person whom I happen to be cool with, "loves" the hobby, but won't take the time to research nor learn the simple truths involved. I have even tried to direct him here to this site in order to enlighten him as well as show him a few things on the basics. I hate to see people torment themselves by going broke while trying to get it right. Finally after a few months of casual conversation on the job, I finally got to see the equipment he was so happy to acquire. He stressed that he had high hopes in being "noticeable" and I likewise suggested the dangers involved. I even tried to direct him to venues where it was okay to do this (competitons) in which he might even learn something, but all to no avail. Anyway, to make this short, he ran out to buy some mega watt amp he had seen at a local pawn shop. It was supposed to be the mother or one of them all. I inquired about it for weeks as he claimed it was hard to find subs that could handle this beast. I figured I would be able to match some subs to it. Today I finally got to see this beast that he paid about $300 for. Still with the sticker attached, was the proof that he did not lie. I quickly scanned to the fuse ratings and my heart sunk as now I had to tell this man the truth. A amp claiming 1000 rms times 2 @ 4 ohms boasting two 35 amp fuses!!!!! I broke it down to him by comparing it to the "600 watt 4 channel Sony" using two 25 amp fuses and asked him how could this be. I got the model number for further homework (Lanzar MXA282 for you nosy people) and hoped this was some new type of class M design (M for miraculous). When I did get to the net for answers, I saw a real eye opener that further sunk my heart for the fellow. A price tag approximately half of what he paid. If only he would have listened or at least checked to see if all (or any for that matter) what I said was true.... Git 'im wit tha steel toes!!! I have an ignorant buddy just like you. You pretty much told his story....... swez on 06/12/2007 09:46:57 When I run into people like this, it's just not worth the aggravation to spend too much time helping those who are not ready to listen. Yeah, I have a soft spot for those who a trying to grow and stretch. (Those are the peeps I will invest in) Those who are not willing to pay attenention and take intelligent action on the suggestions give... well, let them alone until they wake up and see they're on the tracks to a train wreak. Nothing like a good derailment to get someones attention huh? COFFEE Swez PS I have known many peeps like this in the past too. Now, when I see a fresh crop of the same, I just step out of the picture and let them be. I don't need the drama and extra aggravations anymore, just to have a friend who refuses to heed the warning lights on the dashboard of life. Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
