I just bought an Orion D5000 2 run 4 Orion HP12D2 in a sealed box.what do i need 2 power this amp.I boosted my alt. up 2 200amps.Do i need another battery or what. Replies (8) 30Hertz on 06/9/2007 16:26:59 I'm not familiar with the Orion d5000. Is it basically the Orion 2500d? Good step in upgrading the alternator to 200amps. Have you upgraded your stock battery yet to a higher CCA model? If you havent, check into Optima, Kinetik, Hawker, Odyssey, and Deka. You should also upgrade the "Big 3" and make sure you have 1/0guage wiring running to the amplifier to support the power demands. Hunt_1 on 06/9/2007 21:35:40 Iam also having some tuning problems on my HU,it is a premier deh-p980bt.It has a 3-way x-over built in and iam trying to learn about high pass and the slope.Let me tell u what iam running .The HU above.A 4 channel Orion 4800 on 4 Boston Acoustic RX-87.A Kicker KX3 3-way x-over,an Audio Control Epicenter ,a 1.5 cap,4 Orion HP12D2 powered by an Orion 1200D(the one with 1200 true rms).I also picked up the Orion D5000 but havent hooked it up because i thought i might need another battery.Should i turn my settings like loud on or off on the HU.Someone told me u should turn ur settings down to get it sounding better.I dont want 2 set it where i have 2 turn my HU vol. up to 28 to hear the music.Dont get me wrong. It will shake the earth but i want to set my settings right so i can get the most out of it.Thanks Hunt kirchatndftbl on 06/9/2007 23:40:45 http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_7562_Orion+HCCA-D5000.html is this your amp?? Hunt_1 on 06/10/2007 00:30:48 yeah thats the one.I was going to. sell it but after 6 buyers sent bad checks i figured id keep it and buy another battery.Beware of selling on the net. swez on 06/10/2007 08:26:03 Wow, this amp is a beast!!! If your amps already have HP/LP filters, use them and not the HU filters. These Boston Acouctics are 5x7", 4 ohm, 3-way Coaxial ovals and can take good power too. The recommended HPF setting is 80 Hz. per their manual: http://www.bostonacoustics.com/manuals/RXMan.pdf As for your subs and amp, use the LP filter settings in this amp and set the LPF at 80 Hz. as well. I am not familiar with this Kicker crossover but after looking it up, it has some nice features to control Front stage speaker filtering, rear stage filtering and sub outs w/ filters too. The filters are variable and use 3rd order, (18dB/oct) active filters and even a Line Driver preamp to boost signal voltage from the HU to amps. (Nice features here) Here's the Manual for this crossover: http://akamaipix.crutchfield.com/Manuals/206/20603KX3.PDF The AC Epicenter is a bass EQ enhancer. These are nice for dash mounted sub controls and restores lost bass via digital enhancement features. The Epicenter 160 also has an SPL monitoring feature. Man, this is one complex system and lots of redundancies too. This will take a lot of research and tweaking time to get optimal results. In most cases, a simpler approach works best. But if you really wnat to use all this gear, careful planning and wiring steps are needed to prevent noise issues and ground loops. Do you have the manual for this Epicenter unit? What have you installed so far and how well is it working for you? Say more please and break things up into small bites so others can track what is going on here. (Very complex signal routing system here Hunt) Swez Hunt_1 on 06/10/2007 15:21:03 I have it all hooked up but the d5000,which Iam running the older orion 1200d with the true 1200 RMS.I had to go out to the country so i could adjust on it last night so i wouldnt wake the couple next door.Iam going to buy a yellow top this week and get the big three upgrade so i can run the D5000,plus I have to get my amp rack redone(no room 4 the 5000).Thanks 4 all your help.Iam learning more about how to set the freq. swez on 06/10/2007 22:44:48 Wonderful idea and good that you have the common sense that tpp many lack about going elsewhere to dial in their bass engines. GRIN Sounds better too I would hope? Swez Hunt_1 on 06/11/2007 23:08:33 hey swez, just wondering i am running a carquest prem. battery(rated at 650 amps).Iam not having any problems but i keep hearing about the optima yellowtop 34/78 at 750 amps.If i change batteries would i hear any differance?
